How can I get VPN work over plusnet fibre optic using router TG582n

I have just switched over to plusnet recently and I work from home but my outlook doesn't connect over my work VPN. I have tried setting up port forwarding on the router and tried everything in the a previous thread http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,102798.0.html but it is still not working. When I tried the telnet option I keep getting the error 'failed to delete conn binding'. Could anyone help me on this please? It is very frustrating....

This should help, there's a script file to download which does the telnet "unbind" for you.

Re: How can I get VPN work over plusnet fibre optic using router TG582n

Hi Thanks for the information.
I've tried entering the telnet command but I keep getting the error "Failed to delete CONN binding" when I type the 'connection unbind application=IKE port=500-500' command.
I've also tried editing the user.ini but I couldn't  find the "bind application=IKE port=500-500" line
See the original user.ini file below. I have also attached a screenshot of the telnet screen
Any other suggestions?
Many thanks.

Use/buy/get your employer to buy a different router, not sure if the new plusnet router (2704n) experiences this VPN problem.http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/hardware/index.shtml

Re: How can I get VPN work over plusnet fibre optic using router TG582n

Your user.ini file shows "bind application=IKE port=500-500" has been remove but "bind application=ESP" has not been removed.
Ensure UPnP is enabled after you've reloaded the modified user.ini
Also ensure the PC using vpn is on a dynamic IP address and in the routers network settings "always use the same IP address" is ticked for that device.

Re: How can I get VPN work over plusnet fibre optic using router TG582n

Hi NPR,
The "bind application=IKE port=500-500" line was never in the user.ini file only "bind application=ESP" which  I did remove. I've also restarted the laptop and it still wouldn't work.
I have attached the current user.ini file that the router is using.
I await on your response.
Many thanks.

Hi NPR,
The "bind application=IKE port=500-500" line was never in the user.ini file only "bind application=ESP" which  I did remove.

I've done a factory reset on a TG582n firmware R10.2.5.2.FO and the following is the bind application list from the default user.ini file.
Quote
bind application=PPTP ipversion=4 port=1723-1723
bind application=ESP ipversion=4
bind application=AH ipversion=4
bind application=IKE ipversion=4 port=500-500
bind application=SIP ipversion=4 port=5060-5060
bind application=CU/SeeMe ipversion=4 port=7648-7648
bind application=RAUDIO(PNA) ipversion=4 port=7070-7070
bind application=RTSP ipversion=4 port=554-554
bind application=ILS ipversion=4 port=389-389
bind application=ILS ipversion=4 port=1002-1002
bind application=H323 ipversion=4 port=1720-1720
bind application=IRC ipversion=4 port=6660-6669
bind application=FTP port=21-21
bind application=JABBER ipversion=4 port=5222-5222
bind application=JABBER ipversion=4 port=15222-15222
bind application=DHCP ipversion=4 port=67-67
bind application=CONE(UDP) port=69-69
bind application=CONE(UDP) port=88-88
bind application=CONE(UDP) port=3074-3074
bind application=CONE(UDP) port=3478-3479
bind application=CONE(UDP) port=33434-33535

You'll notice it contains
"bind application=PPTP ipversion=4 port=1723-1723"
and
"bind application=IKE ipversion=4 port=500-500"
both of which are missing from your .ini file
It may be worth doing a factory reset on your router, or at least adding whats missing from the above list and starting afresh.
I'm not aware of a problem with VPN using R10 firmware so I would first investigate other possible causes.
Could it be a firewall problem on your PC?
Have you tested it on a friends connection?
etc

Re: How can I get VPN work over plusnet fibre optic using router TG582n

Likewise a new PlusNet fibre customer unable to VPN into work using the supplied router.
I have also tried all the Telnet commands scattered around this and other fora.
The VPN (Cisco) will connect but somewhere along the line it's losing credentials as I get 'bounced' from the company intranet.. unable to access web pages etc
Tried the PlusNet support people ... not very helpful ...
Has anyone cracked this ?
Incidentally NEVER had any issues like this before with previous ISPs and Netgear routers and my 3G dongle works fine too ... but that sort of defeats the object doesn't it ? Not much point having 38M if I can't used the damned thing.
So any fixes or magic potions .... ?? Or is it a new router ?
Fingers crossed ....

Re: How can I get VPN work over plusnet fibre optic using router TG582n

Gave up in the end.
Bought a TP-Link WDR3600 ... no particular reason for picking that one, seemed to get reasonable reviews.
Connected it up - entered username and password - it worked ....  NO VPN PROBLEMS.  Cheesy
Clearly the TG582N has "issues" if you want to use VPN - in my case Cisco.
Not happy about it  Angry , had to use my 3G dongle for a week whilst waiting for some help/solution ... so from my experience, if you need to use a VPN .. dump the TG582

What a shame, their new router may of been a better option for you  Embarrassed
I'm using/testing a 2704n at the moment and must admit I'm pretty happy so far.
