Home Hub5 or something else?

I have been reading a lot of reviews about this all in one router modem,a lot of users say that it works great.
Some are saying that it seems to update a lot & re-boot,not sure what to make of it.
I am thinking of getting one to free up some space instead of having a router & modem, any help on this appreciated. Smiley
Looking for recommendations for best all in one router modem for fibre. Smiley

Re: Home Hub5 or something else?

Home Hub 5 seems to work well for some and not so well for others... also depends on wether it's a type A or B model...
Personally I wouldn't go for BT Home Hub and would look at something like the Billion suggested or maybe even an Asus DSL model...
There is many on the market to choose from but some you do need to avoid just in case of full capability issues such as G.INP or anything else that might show in future..
I've just changed my setup a bit and after a lot of reading, looking and umming and Arring I decided to keep the Openreach modem for diagnostic and compatibility purposes and opted for a beast from Asus (RT_AC87U) to do all the routing work..
If you have a HG612 modem then I would suggest probably keeping that, otherwise look at some of the models listed here: http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,15283.msg284199.html#post_compatible
Quote
Compatible Modem/Routers known to work with G.INP:
ASUS DSL-AC68U
Billion 8800NL
Billion 8800AXL
BT HomeHub 5 Type B  (BCM chipset & Software version V0.07.01.0235-BT)
Draytek Vigor 2860 series - 28/04/15 Appears to only work with g.inp beta f/w available here.  May also work with the vectoring f/w on the same page
Fritzbox vdsl routers - 7390 & 7490 are ok. unsure if it applies to all models.
Netgear DGND3700v1 (Custom firmware: 2015-02-08)
Netgear D6400 - Now seems to be working.
Sky Hub SR102
Talk Talk Super router (Huawei HG635)
Thomson TG589vn v3
TP-Link TD-W9980 - compatible if using f/w TD-W9980_V1_150507 .
Zyxel VMG8324
Zyxel VMG8924

Re: Home Hub5 or something else?

I really want to cut down on the devices i have plugged in,that is why i want a VDSL all in one.
I do not use wifi,my wife,s pc is hooked up using an ethernet cable as i don,t like wireless.
There is a lot to choose from,i have heard a few good reports on the TP-Link models,so far they are near the top of my list, but still looking. Smiley
The billion also looks good, thanks for the links dparr, thanks mim.

Re: Home Hub5 or something else?

I use a ZyXEL SBG3300-N which is rock solid, has G.INP, works with DSLStats and gives me better connection speed and stability than anything else I've used.
In the past I've had and tried the following:
Three Home Hub 5A's, totally rubbish and kept disconnecting.
Draytek Vigor 2750n as above but with lower sync rate.
Asus DSL-N66U, very unstable and lower sync rates although this may have improved with firmware updates as at the time there seemed to be a new one every few days.

Re: Home Hub5 or something else?

Keep both as spares just in case you ever need to for faults/line test or any other diagnostic (or the outside possibility your new Billion ever fails).
Make sure you put them away safely with their correct PSUs (unlike me  :-[).

Re: Home Hub5 or something else?

I think you have made a wise decision with the Billion... specially if wireless is not a priority Smiley
