Good evening.
I'v ran into a small problem where my ping doesn't feel optimised as it should be, reason being is that a friend next door gets a lower ping than me, and a few others are reporting lower pings too.
I'm playing League of Legends and I currently sit on 49-50 ping on European West servers, but when I go to North America, my ping jumps upto 170-200, what gives?
When I got this new connection a few months ago (80mbit down and 20mbit up) I was sometimes getting 29-30 ping on EUW and 100-110 on NA.
My speeds have been totally fine, but the latency/ping not so.
The first thing I did was chuck out the Homehub router and install a proper one, but that didn't seem to help, so I reverted back to the default one and have gone straight through ethernet, still not seeing any difference.
Here's a tracert I just did:
Tracing route to 185.40.64.65 over a maximum of 30 hops 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms dsldevice.lan [192.168.1.254] 2 16 ms 16 ms 29 ms lo0-central10.ptn-ag03.plus.net [195.166.128.192] 3 16 ms 16 ms 17 ms link-b-central10.ptn-gw02.plus.net [212.159.2.138] 4 19 ms 16 ms 16 ms xe-5-3-0.ptw-cr02.plus.net [212.159.0.110] 5 16 ms 16 ms 15 ms ae2.ptw-cr01.plus.net [195.166.129.4] 6 40 ms 40 ms 40 ms linx.as6663.net [195.66.224.252] 7 * * 44 ms 31.210.11.102 8 42 ms 42 ms 42 ms 104.160.148.52 9 * * * Request timed out. 10 * * * Request timed out. 11 42 ms 42 ms 42 ms 104.160.141.103 12 42 ms 42 ms 42 ms 104.160.141.107 13 * * * Request timed out. 14 * * * Request timed out. 15 43 ms 43 ms 43 ms 185.40.64.65 Trace complete.
Hope, someone can point me in the right direction, thank you.

So what would explain the higher ping on EU West servers? The average people are getting in my area is around 25-30 ping, where I'm getting about 49-50.

This is the tracert from my BT connection.

Recently G.INP was enabled on my cabinet which reduced my latency my around 8ms, but other than that it's about the same I was getting with Plusnet.
You could try renewing your PPP connection to try and get on a different gateway (second hop in your tracert). A different gateway may or may not give lower latency -- worth a try for nothing.
