Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

@bobpullen

An hour ago speed was 24 Mb now 31 Mb speedtest.net    Wired computer

Packet Loss, Ping and Jitter from pingtest.net

All this weirdness started when your Dave announced he had changed something, about 3 to 4 pm.

I have had 36 Mb up to then.

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Thanks, I'm seeing fairly consistent download speed at Colindale (this is a handful of ThinkBroadband test files), so don't seem to be seeing the same fluctuations:

It's been tricky to look into individual gaming issues whilst we've had the packet loss present as it does a good job of masking any specific problems. I think we've a signature update due for WoW though so there's still some work to do in that area.

@dnpark38, thanks for the clarification. Definitely odd if it only started post 3pm Huh

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

@bobpullen  the lag is manageable, the packet loss was unbearable... with every incident of "instancing" which was anything from logging into a character or moving to any other zone on the world map, the game would hang on the loading screen and then either disconnect you, or boot you because it thought there wasn't a free instance for you to join (except there always was) all because the game wasn't getting the information properly

so on that note i'm glad... but i wonder if the lag spikes i'm seeing could have anything to do with my recent finding that my FTTC line (cab>house) is actually 1.9km, after whatever plusnet changed with the gateway, this new problem emerged, at least for me

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

@bobpullen

Done a Think Broadband Speed test and it comes with a warning with the 31Mb result

"Your test shows a variable streaming result.   This maybe down congestion or other issues."

Just done the BTW performance test

I did have an IP Profile of 37.4 and a range of 30 to 37.4 Mb

Now IP Profile is 32.7 Mb and a range of 22.89 to 32.7 Mb.

Is this in your control to get it back up?    Or is this the cabinet DLM reacting?

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

@bobpullen

There has been an improvement tonight (I'm connected via Colindale). I have only been web browsing and streaming but it has been a lot better then on previous nights - although there does appear to be a lag between requesting and the web page loading - but when it starts it loads quickly - I accept that is a subjective judgement not necessarily backed up by evidence!.

@dnpark38

Have you been rebooting your modem/router? If so how often?

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

My ping to then rust server I usually play on was good today since the changes made at around 3.15pm. When the issue hit first I was getting up to 13000ms ping, today I had 28/32ms.

However my speed test still shows around 25mbps down & 4mbps up. I used to get 30/32mbps & 6/7mbps.

I submitted a fault yesterday to hopefully address this, as a live chat agent said that they expect me to be getting better speeds. How long does it usually take for someone to look into the fault tickets?

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Looks like unfortunately there isn't one, until BT who are privately owned start sinking some real money into their network it's only going to get worse.

This is capitalism at it's pinnacle and all those shareholders collecting monies that should be reinvested in the company don't give a [-Censored-] about the little people until it goes [-Censored-] up and then they just bail out leaving everyone but themselves holding the [-Censored-] end on the stick Knuppel

Let's try and keep this thread on topic. The information you've posted in the thread above is misinformed at best.
