Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Was back to being terrible again yesterday morning, so I went ahead and bought a static IP. Ever since, my connection has been near perfect and, for the first time in about two weeks, I've been able to play my games in the evening! I'm not sure if it was the static IP that resolved it, or if it just coincided with Plusnet sorting something out on there end.

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Thanks everyone, it's really appreciated and really helpful.

If you look at the traceroutes or the Usertools gateway checker some of you will see Colindale (PCN) and some will see Southbank (PSB). The way the network is designed is that based on exchange you're on about half of you will connect to Colindale and half to Southbank (with each site being backup).

We made a change at Southbank on Friday and it does look like an improvement can be seen on those graphs in comparison to Thursday and to Colindale.

To help with the next steps these live graph are really really useful so if there's anyone else that has one or can set them up it would be really useful, and to anyone that changes IP address again would be really useful to keep the graph up to date if you can and also to post a traceroute or the result of http://usertools.plus.net/@gateway as that lets us see at a glance whether you're on Colindale or Southbank.

@Bob1 sometimes the latency spikes can be completely normal, there's a big page of graphs below of what you can probably say is "normal" if there is such a thing. If you're uploading and maxing your line out, even just briefly for a few seconds it'll cause latency spikes for example. Same for downloading depending on exactly what you're doing.

@dave

Thank you for this update. And the plans for those of us on Colindale please?

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

What I find interesting is that in spite of all these issues they are continuing to move users across to the new network!

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Will it be Open Reach doing the work of transferring and they working to an order schedule PN have placed on them?

Just like the teething issues when the BNGs were introduced.

Less KBOn and more KBUp ...

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Yeah same here. I am getting random DCs every now and then. Feels like I am back on Talktalk again as I had that issue but my game has been stable, packets been getting better but the random dcs. we get one problem sorted, now we get another.

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Before 10am today I was seeing zero packet loss. Sadly, this didn't last long as by 12pm I was averaging 10%-15%. This has got steadily worse as my latest ping test shows:

It would seem this problem isn't "resolved".

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

Again I'm running ok again today with 0% packet loss according to pingtest.net this is since PN told me they had made alterations to my line including interleaving and when I looked at my account I saw I was now static IP and a speed drop of 10%.

I'm really concerned for those of you still having problems.

Also I'm basing my future with PN on the comments here.  There seems to be no hope PN is silent on Service statement on this website, I did a search on the internet and found a website with all providers status on and they said no problems at PN.

Am I unique in getting cured of packet loss, are the problems only with dynamic IP s on this new network?

Maybe an idea for you to tells us in your posts if dynamic or static.    I'n scared I will go wrong again to be honest.

Re: High packet loss and other DNS issues

I'm on a dynamic IP. I certainly won't be paying to get a static IP.

I won't be agreeing to pay anymore money, in fact PN is higher now for me than other providers with their offers to new customers, I'm now out of fixed contract with PN so all reductions gone.
