Re: Help with rubbish UPLOAD speed?

It looks like I found what was causing the problem. I have disabled QOS and now have a decent upload speed. Does that make any sense?

Re: Help with rubbish UPLOAD speed?

So what did you have the "maximum uplink bandwidth" set to ?

Re: Help with rubbish UPLOAD speed?

I don't believe I have ever changed it, currently it is 512 Kbps. What should it be?

Re: Help with rubbish UPLOAD speed?

Try setting it to perhaps 18Mbps, and then re-enable the QoS

Re: Help with rubbish UPLOAD speed?

Sorry I have been away... So much improved upload speed but less than half of the expected. Do you think that is about the best I should expect?

Re: Help with rubbish UPLOAD speed?

Hi @God1

I'm pleased that this has improved, however, your line is still in sync at 20mb/s upload so I would expect you to get as close to that as possible.

I noted from your earlier comments that you're only able to run this via wifi, which, honestly, may be the cause of the drop in upload within your premises - the only way we're going to be sure though is to try an alternative test via ethernet - if its still slow, I'd be tempted to go down the engineer route, if it isn't, we know to focus on the wifi aspect of the problem.

Is there any way at all you can borrow/utilise a wired device for one test?

Best wishes

Dave

Re: Help with rubbish UPLOAD speed?

With a 20m cable running from the PC to the Router the results are:

DL 71.68

UL 4.16

Ping 19

However I still think it must be a router setting, see below from earlier in the thread

*********************

Different Router

DL 71.12

UL 20.64!

PL 36

So, it is either a fault with the router or I suspect a setting in the router causing the problem… I am not sure what the likely culprit is though, where would you suggest I start hunting?

Re: Help with rubbish UPLOAD speed?

Hi @God1

With a 20m cable

That might be the first think to rule out - extending your line length can reduce speed. Any chance that you have a shorter cable to test my theory?

Thanks,

MoR

Re: Help with rubbish UPLOAD speed?

Nope 10m isn't long enough. So I have to use the 20m However the test with the other router used the same 20m cable.

Re: Help with rubbish UPLOAD speed?

Thanks for that @God1

I'm afraid we do not know about the settings/main culprits of Nighthawk routers, or any 3rd party ones for that matter, save personal knowledge experience with them. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the model - but maybe one of the lovely forum members does? (asking for help here guys, who's a Nighthawk expert?)

Thanks,

MoR
