Getting very slow speeds after moving to Plusnet

Hi there,

We moved house recently and moved to plusnet which went live on Fri 5th May. Initially we were getting speeds on 2mbs that evening, and since then it's increased to almost 7mbs, specifically 6.88mbs seems to be the limit it can hit.

I'm aware that it can take 10 days to receive full speeds but I would have hoped they would have increased by alot more since we should apparently be getting almost 70mbs.

Using the BTwholesale speed test we can get: 6.96mbs and 80.13 ping.

Our line speed is:

Estimated line speed:68Mb (This may vary between 50.8Mb and 68.2Mb) - Checked on 2017-04-20 21:42:31

Current line speed:7.15 Mb

We have checked with wireless and ethernet, and on mobile phones as well.

If there's any other info I can give then let me know, otherwise I'm hoping someone can offer some assistance to why our speeds are so slow

Thanks in advance

Re: Getting very slow speeds after moving to Plusnet

Hi 😀
Firstly there is no 10 day training period for FTTC connections .48 hours should be enough for DLM to work
I hope you are testing wired and not WiFi ?
And which router are you using , all this will help
Asus ROG Hero Vii Z97 , Intel i5 4690k ,ROG Asus Strix 1070,
samsung 850evo 250gig , WD black 2 TB . Asus Phoebus sound ,
16 gig Avexir ram 2400 , water cooling Corsair H100i gtx ,
Corsair 750HXI Psu , Phanteks Enthoo pro case .

Looks like you may need a PN rep to nudge your profile.

Re: Getting very slow speeds after moving to Plusnet

Yep, I've tested with both wired and wireless and am getting throttled at about 7mbs. Also my router is the supplied one with fibre called the plusnet hub one. I can't find a model name/number for it.

Just a case of waiting for a plusnet staff member to see my post I guess?

Call customer service, they can fix it. I had to do this when I was upgraded to FTTC. This forum is not a quick support channel.

Re: Getting very slow speeds after moving to Plusnet

I wonder if there's a confusion between mbps and Mbps ?

mbps is mentioned 5 times and Mbps is mentioned 4 times.

@zephyrmop Does the connection seem slow ?Huh

Re: Getting very slow speeds after moving to Plusnet

Strictly speaking a prefix of 'm' is a multiplier of 10^-3 (milli-) and 'M' is a multiplier of 10^6 (Mega-) however in the context of this thread it can be safely assumed it is the latter.

In the case of bits and Bytes however it is sometimes not clear which unit is being referred to.

Re: Getting very slow speeds after moving to Plusnet

Agreed, but if you take some of the  low numbers for Mb & mb and treat them as MB then the converted comparisons are very close. Hence the question "Does the connection seem slow ?"

Probably got this completely wrong so I'm off to sit in the sun.......

Re: Getting very slow speeds after moving to Plusnet

Fix

Hi there @zephyrmop

I am sorry to hear you are having speed issues.

I've found the problem. It's not a profiling issue. The agent that placed the order with our suppliers provisioned the service on ADSL broadband instead of fibre broadband. Sad

I am in the process of modifying the service now, but this will take a minimum lead time of 5 working days I'm afraid. I will be passing on internal feed back to my manager in regards to this.

I've created this ticket on your account with more information.

Once again, I sincerely apologise for this.
