Gateway Affects Speed

Hi,

I have noticed I am getting slower speeds than my usual 72/73Mbps download speed.

My BT profile appears to be okay. However, my download speeds range from 68-70Mbps and this varies depends on which gateway I connect to.

So far it only appears to connect to psb-bng01, psb-bng02 and psb-bng03. I have done many WAN reconnects via the router and only connects to these three.

Is there any ways for force connect to a different gateway to get the old speed back?

Re: Gateway Affects Speed

Hi there,

That's unusual as we'd not expect you to see such a difference. Is this still an issue? if so some results of traceroutes to each gateway would help us to start looking at that in more detail.

There isn't a way of forcing your connection onto a particular gateway, so if that's something you wanted to do it's just a case of rebooting until it changes. As a word of caution and in case you're unaware I'd avoid doing that excessively as that can cause other problems.

Re: Gateway Affects Speed

Thanks for your input.

I have acquired a new BT Openreach modem by ECI and have synced at a slightly higher speed of 75.94Mbps.

Speed tests are still around 68/69Mbps and no higher Sad

I am wondering if I will ever see the speed of 72Mbps again

I noticed some of Plusnet's gateway start with PCN and others PSB. Not sure if one is meant to be faster than the other?

Re: Gateway Affects Speed

I have noticed the speed on the Plusnet site mentions 72.8Mbps whereas the BT IP Profile is 75.94Mbps.

Can this be the reason why I am not reaching the possible maximum bandwidth?

Thanks.

Re: Gateway Affects Speed

Fix
I called support this morning and the Plusnet speed profile was updated to match the BT IP profile.

I am now getting 72Mbps like before.
