G.Fast pod on my cabinet, but not in DSL checker?

Hi,

I noticed today that there is a G.Fast pod on my FTTC cabinet. When I use the BT DSL checker, it doesn't show up. Neither does putting the exact road it's on. It's cabinet 54 if that helps which also comes up when using my telephone number in the checker so I'm def in that cabinet.

Any ideas, why this is?

Also is it possible for a member of staff to do some kinnd of line test to get an approximate distance to the cabinet? I think it's going to be about 200-250m depending on how they have done it.

Thanks

Is the pod anything like the ones in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"?

I don't dare touch it, just a click glance out of my mirror is enough for me. Just to be cautious.

Are you sure it's a G.fast pod?

The reason I ask is they don't connect to the FTTC cabinet, they connect to the PCP.

Below is my PCP/G.fast pod (also note the ventilation slots on the pod)

It looks exactly like this:

Then on the left about a few metres away is another green box smaller in size, well in width anyway.

That's a PCP with a G.fast pod, the smaller green box will be the FTTC cabinet.

Have a look here and you can see how easy it is to get them mixed up.

The weird thing is on the BT Wholesale Test (I know it's funky atm) But I'm wondering if they are actually testing the G.Fast download speeds? 404mb just doesn't make sense.

That's just the speed test playing silly beggars.

Re: G.Fast pod on my cabinet, but not in DSL checker?

Please can anyone tell me if this is a g.fast extension box. It's not connected to the fibre cabinet, that is a few feet to the right.

It appeared a few weeks ago but there seems to be no mention of it when I check to see if I can get g.fast yet.

If it helps it's in Henllys, Cwmbran. The cabinet number is clearly noted on the front.

If it is a g.fast extension how long does it typically take after it was installed before it is available for order?

Thanks in advance.

We have had one for about 4 months now and nothing appears on DSL checker, even for the house next to it. Not really sure why its there to be honest.

I'm almost certain that IS a G.fast pod but it can take many many months before its actually active as Openreach may need to add extra fiber links to handle the additional capacity.  All you can really do is keep checking.

If it's not connected to the FTTC cab then I'd be surprised if it's a G.Fast pod.

Re: G.Fast pod on my cabinet, but not in DSL checker?

But I thought a g.fast pod doesn't connect to the FTTC cabinet. It's supposed to connect to the PCP cabinet. That's what everyone seems to say.

Ah, seems you're right. Sorry. If I get the chance, I'll check the deployment reports and see if that sheds any light on things ...
