Fibre in Letterston?

I've been told via the grapevine that our local Letterston, Pembrokeshire exchange has been upgraded to Fibre Optic (FTTC I think). Can anyone confirm this for sure?
I can't see any upgrade options in my account.
Hope it's not just a rumour...
TIA
Carl.

check here http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/ADSLChecker.TelephoneNumberOutput
Note that even though your exchange may be fibre there is no guarantee that your cab is

Re: Fibre in Letterston?

Not been upgraded yet, as far as I can see.
Exchange work is due to be completed by June - no dates for the cabs other than in 2015.

According to that link there is no fibre available here but according to the Openreach website:-
"Superfast Fibre is in your area but we can't tell by your postcode/number if you can get it right now. Please contact your communications provider, who can check using your phone number."
Openreach have been digging up all our main roads for a couple of weeks, so something big has been going on. All cleared now.
Is a cabinet a part of the exchange?
Thankyou
Carl.

Re: Fibre in Letterston?

nope - it is a big green box somewhat closer to you than the exchange
If you put your phone number in it should tell you which cab you are on

That's excellent news, thank you 🙂
I guess Plusnet will notify me when the option is available.

Thank you for your help. No mention of cabinets at that URL though:-
BT BROADBAND AVAILABILITY CHECKER
Telephone Number 01348xxxxxx on Exchange LETTERSTON
Featured Products
ADSL Max Up to 8 -- 7 to 8 Available
Fixed Rate 2 -- -- Available
Not sure about the green box, our estate is very new & everything seems to be all underground apart from a large electricity transformer. There's one main road through the village which has been dug up from one end to the other by Openreach recently, but not to the houses, so I guess FTTP is out of the question. Not that I would need all that speed 😉
Looks like we will get by June though. When I lived in Essex in 2000 we had FTTP, though only 512kb/s back then. Amazing how far behind we are in Wales when it comes to telecoms. Still waiting for 3G, too!

Carl
That does not look good.
If there is no mention of a cabinet then you are on an exchange only line (EO).
That means a delay and more work for Operreach before you MAY get FTTC.
Also plusnet will not notify you when it eventually becomes available.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.....
Ian
(PS I'm also in Pembrokeshire)

Re: Fibre in Letterston?

It looks like they will be putting in cabinets for some of those on EO lines.
Originally, most on Letterson were set to get FTTP (Cabs 1,2,3,5 and EO) but it seems to have changed to FTTC (covered by BDUK Wales).
There is a handful of houses (total of 8 ) now set to get FTTP with an estimated date of 29 Aug 15.

Nice to see another local on here 🙂
I think Plusnet could be missing some sales opportunities if they don't notify existing customers of upgrades. Unless we get upgraded automatically for the current price 😄

Re: Fibre in Letterston?

I think Plusnet now notify you when fibre is available in your area via email - one of the CRT guys posted about this on another thread.
