Fibre connection dropping regularly: help would be much appreciated.

 

Hi everyone.
 
I’m seeking the help of those who can solve the “broadband dropping all of a sudden” problem. I have noticed recently our connection has went from stable and sound to pretty much unreliable when being used. Most of what I do online is streaming or gaming so it is obvious when it drops out, aside from my 3 year old shouting at me “Dad the internet is broken again” which is now becoming as common as the sound of the Paw Patrol theme tune.

 

 
I have searched the forums, it seems a common issue. I have done all the rudimentary tests such as removing the head of the ADSL and telephone socket, connected to the test socket, checked phone line does not have noise, ran the BT test tool without any luck. I’ve also ensured the channel my router is on does not conflict with neighbouring devices.
 
 
The alternative of having an engineer visit really isn’t going to be convenient, given the times of the dropouts are fairly regularly in the late night and early hours of the morning. Which is when the connection is actually being used the most. If an engineer was to come out during the day, as per the logs, there’s a chance nothing will happen and I’m not prepared to foot the bill.
 
 
In order to better assess this it would be ideal to have a GEA test performed on my connection.
 
Id also be very grateful to have my router firmware updated to 4.7.5.1.83.8.259.
 
If anything further is needed of me please let me know.

I’d also be very grateful to have my router firmware updated to 4.7.5.1.83.8.259.

I too think that's the next step which should fix the connection issues you're experiencing, so I've raised this with our products guys(Likely to be Bob) to update the firmware. I'd expect it to be actioned within the next few days.

EDIT: I can see the firmware has been updated however the connection still dropped 7 times so far since the upgrade. It has been happening despite us actually being away for the weekend.

I'n not really sure what I'd be listening for. I have called, the line is fairly silent although there does seem to be a very faint backdrop of white noise.

I left this open as I was not sure whether the steps taken would fully resolve this issue.

 

Since I last posted we (my family and I) have tolerated the service despite frequent dropouts. Not a thing else has changed in this household however, now, these dropouts have become intolerable.

 

We mainly use the service for streaming and our child uses it for gaming and today has been quite ridiculous. 

 

I am not sure what is going on, the sync stats hardly even change so is it even disconnecting from the DSLAM?

 

In addition the log seems to either de displaying an incorrect time (-5 hours exactly I'd say) or it has stopped recording events 5 hours ago.

 (edit: after another dropout the HUB started up logging at the correct time and has written to the log there had been 5 hours uptime, which is nonsense in this case).

 

I'd like the analytics to be performed again if possible to check what's happening. Given the firmware update didn't resolve this I'd like the next step to be taken be that a new router then I'd be pleased to try that. Anything to get consistent uptime. Seriously considering changing provider if we can't resolve this.

I've popped some test results below for you to look at:

 

 

 

 

The connection log show it's definitely dropping, although it always seems isolated to evening time. I think the best bet is a new router you've requested, so I've ordered this out to you. After that it's probably looking like a visit being booked, and if it gets to this I'd suggest a PM appointment to see if they can catch the drops as they're happening.

The drops mainly happen when the connection is in use either through streaming or gaming this is why these are appearing at times you'd expect it to be in use heavily.

 

 

I will try a new router and assess the situation after this.

What on earth could be causing this?

I had another topic about my connection and was kindly given the following graphic to look at regards my dropouts. It appeared to be some sort of regular pattern of happening early evening and on through the night - tapering off for the daytime and beginning again at night.

So.... I kept a close eye on the connection tonight and I'm at a loss to explain this! Check out the drops below, what could possibly even be causing this to happen so regularly? It wasn't even staying connected for five whole minutes between 7 and half 7.
