Fibre coming today.....or maybe NOT

Today is my GO LIVE day for Fibre.

However , the BT website says that there is an open order for my number to be done by 26th September.

The excitement is too much...when is it happening?

Marvellous, and to add insult to injury my shiny new router is providing slow, unstable internet.

The date You've been given would be the provisional install date which in an ideal world would also be the actual install date.

It baffles me why Plusnet don't pass on any changes (such as engineer availability) to the customer.

Unfortunately the order date has been pushed back due to engineer availability

With regards to your current issues our tests are picking up what's known as a 'High resistance' fault.

Can you go through the steps here and let us know how you get on?

With regard to my unstable internet.

My phone line sounds perfectly clear.

I am getting constant downtime, internet dropping out, unable to connect to server etc.

All my connections are fine.

By changing back to my old Sagemcom ROUTER 2704N PLUSNET  I then have stable useable internet.

Same cables and filter.

Hi @andyharrold,

Thank you for providing those details and for confirming that these connection problems only occur when you have your new router connected and disappear when you change back to the old 2704N router. As this is the case, it sounds like the new router may be faulty. I've ordered you a replacement to try and it'll be with you within 3-5 working days.

Thanks for that. I will post again if the new one also has continuous drop offs.

By the time it arrives my fibre should be active.

New router appears to be better.

Speeds are only 19meg , but that is on wifi and still within the first 10 days so they will hopefully improve.

There is no 10 day period on fibre despite what support or anyone else may say it's a myth.

Also Wi-fi is not a reliable way to test speeds as the signals are prone to interference and give incorrect results, do you have the means to test via a ethernet wired connection this gives a true result of the speed. 

What are your speed estimates you say your only getting 19Mb so knowing what the estimates are will give an idea if your line is expeted to be able to do more than that and by how much, it could be you have a fault but a wired test would have to be done first to rule out it being just wi-fi interference.

With a wired connection I get 29meg so a lot better than the 19 in the test earlier today.( I knew that wifi was not a reliable figure. )

Min 34 was promised but as long as BT sport plays ok in HD I will be happy!

If your min was 34Mb then your under that going by the wired test which could indicate a fault, although you may be happy with what you have you might want to get the line looked at issues can have a habbit of geting worse.

My laptop has now decided again that it cannot connect to the router!
