BT are currently working on connecting fibre to our village. When it's finally connected, is any action needed on my part to get the benefits. Do I have to upgrade my package with PlusNet for instance and do I need a new router (currently one supplied by you - a Thompson I think) ? When I stopped for a chat with the OpenReach guys, they said it's only for BT customers. Is that likely to be true and if so PlusNet is part of BT isn't it?

The Openreach chap was talking rubbish or you misunderstood. It is only for customers of an ISP which use the BT Openreach connection basically all of them except ones who want Virgin Fibre
To get it you will need to change products once it is available
To change phone Customer Options (Cancellations) - see contact number in my sig
You will need a new router and at present a separate modem

Thanks for that Jim. Is there a website I can check the progress of OpenReach? I'll be staying with PlusNet as I've never had a problem with them in over 5 years.

One final point - if your exchange isn't unbundled (LLU) hence Sky and TalkTalk not available then fibre from them may well be delayed until a link can be put in to a nearby exchange which is or they unbundle the exchange

As soon as fibre is available at your cabinet you can opt to upgrade your account via the member center. This will allow you to choose which package best suits you or feel free to call one of the team who will talk you through this.
