Fibre Speed at Modem Speeds

Hello,

Been a PlusNet customer coming up to 15 years now. First time I've had to complain.

My Fibre broadband has been at 56k Modem speeds since 11pm last night. With no sign of improving. I've reset all network devices in the house, rebooted the PlusNet router several times. I can't do speed tests, or trace routes, etc. it's not possible. I'm actually tethered to my mobile phone to post this.

It's very rarely I have any issues with PlusNet (once a year), and if it happens; it resolves within half a day or so.

Please help!

~Robin

Re: Fibre Speed at Modem Speeds

Sorry to hear you're having issues.

Our tests aren't showing any obvious causes.

Can you try a wired connection if you haven't done so already?

Re: Fibre Speed at Modem Speeds

It's slowly migrated back to 60mbit through out the night. However; The network is wired, and attached directly to the master socket. Nothing's changed.

Consulingt with a friend who used to work with network hardware, and through traceroots, we found out that;

Google reaches fine:

We sort of concluded that the problem was beyond Plusnet and my IP address was being blocked/banned (probably a group of others in the same subnet) too, due to someone DDOSing or causing a problem; and me getting caught in the middle. He explained to me Google being a bigger company than Github or Reddit, has more 'network clout', and is probably 'closer' to Plusnet than the others are. It also explains why some sites were working (but slow), and some were causing Chrome to timeout.

Anyway, something has been reset, a file, a server, or cable, and now it's working again. Hopefully it lasts.
