Fast broadband speed, but slow internet!

Hi all,
Im using windows 7 with all the latest updates and my broadband speeds are 80Mbps wired and 40 wireless, but my web surfing is painfully slow. I have had the engineer out today and he has fixed a fault that he found, so know the speeds are great.
Why is my pages loading so slow 15 to 20 seconds on average to load a basic page.
Its a fresh instal of the OS and I have run ccleaner.
Any advice much appreciated.

Which browser are you using?

Are you ok to clear your cookies and cache?

I have tried Chrome and Firefox but they are both slow. I used ccleaner to clear cache.

Re: Fast broadband speed, but slow internet!

It depends on the website - some use HTML5 in the background to serve ads and watch where you go and have been.

Sometimes they also play havoc with some of your browser plugins - I have flash set to "ask", "on demand" - and I get requests for flash when there's no flash content -- again, it's a behind the scenes flash app doing som advert or usage gathering for them.

I suggest - grab an older version of Opera, 12.18 portable (portable means you can run it and it doesn't change anything on your system, no taking over the urls, etc..)

O 12.18 doesn't understand HTML5 - so if it is that then it will be faster as it just ignores it.

if it's no faster than there are other issues.

How did it go?

Did that older Opera give a better web speed?
