Re: FTTPoD

I suppose finding out what it'd cost is purely academic, as no ISPs that I'm aware of have any FTTPoD offerings going at the moment...

BT Business
Entanet
Gradwell
Maybe Plusnet...
There are quite a few small/niche ISPs that would offer it, but it would be a custom quotation etc.

They're all business offerings, though.

Bear in mind this quote from earlier in the thread:
Quote from: pwatson
Apart from the significant cost, one of the other stumbling blocks is the minimum contract length. The current BTO service has a minimum of three years and this limits it to business connections as OFCOM introduced a maximum tie in of two years for residential services some time ago.

Highly unlikely you'll see a residential offering any time soon.

Enta does it for personal - when you order there do not ask which one it is for. EFM is £600 a month for 100/100

Re: FTTPoD

Openreach are finding it impossible to get copper to the house, so perhaps I should go for fibre.
With 1 cabinet 10 metres away, a second about 50 metres away, and a third 100 metres away, there's bound to be an aggregation node somewhere around here.

By definition aren't Entanet geared towards the business sector?

Re: FTTPoD

They offer 3 packages and then they offer the business stuff.
Well they did when I put my details in last night.

Re: FTTPoD

I'm pretty certain that it's only business aimed providers at the moment.
Pete - you've asked me this before, sorry I never got back to you.
You're Band G: £6,125 distance based charge, £750 install, 50/50ish chance of excess charges based on history of provides too.
But after that you'll be fine as long as you can afford the £200 p/m contract for 3 years.
Of course this would all be presuming that the ISP wouldn't want to charge you the rental fee so that they can actually make some money out of the whole experience.

EDIT: Excluding VAT so multiply the figure by 1.2

Re: FTTPoD

Am I right in thinking, that after the 3 year contract is up, FTTPoD becomes normal GEA-FTTP?
So the monthly price should come down substantially, to something more in line with the GEA-FTTP price list http://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home/products/pricing/loadProductPriceDetails.do?data=SjLGnN8O1mzybN...?

Re: FTTPoD

That's a good question, I'm not actually sure.
It's a possibility, but I can't imagine it going cheaper in honesty.

Re: FTTPoD

Thanks Matty,
Rather odd it's so far away - the exchange is closer!
f"excess charges based on history of provides too." I hope that's not my personal history of provides. If so I find it insulting.

Re: FTTPoD

Bear in mind that it's the distance between your property and the aggregation node, rather than the exchange. I know that that should be closer, but just for future reference.
I'm basing the likelihood of excess charges over the amount of previous FTTPoD provides that had them from what I've seen with other providers. If we did excess charges based on whether we liked someone or not then that would be a bit mean.

...  FTTC should be fibre 100% from exchange all the way to the house!

Another senseless statement from you.  How would that work?  You do realise it would then be FTTP?
