FTTP - do I need a phone line?

I am buying a new build that will be set up ready for FTTP. Do I need a phone line installed or can I do without since the fibre is direct to the property?
Thanks.

Re: FTTP - do I need a phone line?

It depends on how important a landline telephone is to you or do you primarily use a mobile.

May I ask which ISP you plan to go with for your FTTP or is that preordained by the developer.

Re: FTTP - do I need a phone line?

We're not at all bothered about a landline, mobile signal is good so we'd be more than happy to use them.
I'd be hoping to use Plusnet, as there are few fttp providers in the area and last time I was with them I was really pleased with their service.

Re: FTTP - do I need a phone line?

The reason I asked the question is because Plusnet no longer offer the FTTP trial to new customers.

We also don't know if/when they will be offering FTTP as a new product.

Oh no! Thanks for that info, looks like I'll have to go elsewhere.

Re: FTTP - do I need a phone line?

Hi there.

Firstly welcome to our community forums and thanks for your interest in Plusnet.

Unfortunately we have recently closed our FTTP trial for new applicants, but I'd recommend keeping an eye out as we may launch FTTP as a product in the future, though it's not something I can guarantee we will do or provide a timescale. Sad

Sorry for any disappointment this may cause.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

@Sparetc

I believe IDNet will do FTTP without a phone line https://www.idnet.net/data_products/super-fast-broadband.php

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

@Sparetc

A list of FTTP providers can be found at https://www.homeandbusiness.openreach.co.uk/fibre-broadband/ultrafast-broadband/ultrafast-fibre-buy-...

It is currently missing IDNet and Freeola who also provide FTTP.

Zen has a phone free option but the prices aren't much lower.

And Sky have just announced that they will use Openreach FTTP too, but haven't given a date or prices yet.
