FTTC not connecting for 72 hours and counting

Since Saturday Morning my router has been unable create a PPPoE session - it appears to just be being ignored (same error messages as  http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,108770.0.html/) by server.
From the answer on my ticket it appears I have been connected through this period despite knowing the router was powered down for at least 7 hours (as it is regularly)  and I even powered down modem and router for 10 minutes to see whether that would cure it.
Despite putting more information on ticket after it was answered (Ticket #105763299)- not a peek (an acknowledgement would be nice even if just we are looking at it)  - my experience the tickets seem to they get lost or put really low on priority
Colour very unimpressed with service

Sorry for the slow response times.

I think I have found the problem, which is stopping you from reconnecting. I have just session killed your line and restarted it which usually fixes the issue. Are you ok to let me know if it has worked?
Just to warn you that it may be worth leaving the modem connected at all times that you can. Leaving it on permanently helps your line to stabilise a little better.

Re: FTTC not connecting for 72 hours and counting

HI
Thanks
it will be later this afternoon before I can check.
I always leave modem powered up, but power down my router on a timer switch (otherwise I can forget the time and spend too many hours online)

For a decent, trouble free connection, self discipline will improve your speeds etc infinitely.  Cool Powering down the router will screw up your speeds immeasurably.  Wink

I can understand why killing modem will potentially cause issues as the system actively monitors for quality issues at the physical/link layers - but the router being totally separate shouldn't cause any issues if disconnected and I wasn't seeing speed issues just a "dead session" blocking reconnection  - it seems strange the system doesn't auto drop old session when a new one is attempted as that would allow a non-support recovery.

The powering the router off will have no effect on the stability of the connection between modem & dslam,

A couple of weeks ago I had a problem with my powerline adapters and did disconnect my router several times while keeping my modem powered up. There was a hit on the sync speed from 30.6Mbps to 28.6Mbps. Not a big deal but it does go against what you suggest  Smiley

Re: FTTC not connecting for 72 hours and counting

Routers connected to modems are just devices on your network just as a mobile phone, tablet,  laptop Pc, game console etc  would be, they would have no effect on the Sync speeds in any way.
Peter your drop was most likely due to the issue with your power adapters that cased a high noise burst that caused very high errors and the modem to drop the connection the router disconnections had no baring on it at all.
you only have to look in the Peek time issue thread to see how many people are dropping the connection on their routers to get on a better gateway end point some having to do so 5 times or more in a row  I have done this myself at times and they don't loose sync speed.
