The Zyxel VMG8924-B10A does VDSL although I've never tested it on a DSL line.
I did get to play with one the other week but not with it connected directly to a DSL line (It also has Ethernet Wan)

I would either get a billion 8800nl or Zyxel VMG8924-B10A
Reason is both use a broadcom chipset for the dsl modem.
The billion only has 1 gigabit port but the modem performs very similar to the hg612 on my line so should get good stability out of it and it has a good GUI.
The zyxel on my line syncs 2mbit higher using the non public KL6 firmware, but has about 4x as many ES, so be wary of that as DLM counts ES. Its GUI is also somewhat dodgy, wouldnt work properly in IE.
They both have wireless but dont know the spec of the zyxel wireless off hand. The billion is 2.4ghz only wireless N with 300mbps max speeds.

The TD-W8970 is sold as ADSL2+ - the TD-W9980 is the VDSL unit (at around £70+ if you find one available), though ISTR reading somewhere that the TD-W8980 could be flashed with VDSL software as it is hardware compatible with the TD-W9980 The lowest cost (recommended) unit seems to be the Billion 8800NL, but it has 100Mb and 2.4GHz LAN capability whereas the TD-W9980 is Gb ethernet, 2.4GHz and 5GHz - depends what you need.

VDSL routers are a bit of a niche market at the moment, so presumably they're expensive because the people who want them are prepared to pay and there's not a lot of demand to justify mass producing the units on such as scale as ADSL routers.
Once the ISP's move to FTTC self install then it's possible the demand might pick up a bit but still probably not that high as most people just use the router the ISP gives them no matter how terrible it is, and even quite a few of the people who want something better would rather still get it from their ISP as then it should have been tested to work with the ISP's network and if the provider has half decent support then they'll also help if you run into problems with it.
Where as with a lot of providers if you use your own router and something breaks tough...
