Evening random disconnection

I have 2 Y-Cam security cameras. They are a good monitor of internet connectivity because they flash red if they disconnect from the Y-Cam servers.

Over the last few months I've noticed that somewhere between 16:30 and 17:30 I will often get a disconnection. The cameras will auto reconnect, sometimes in seconds or minutes, but I've had a few times recently where only a router reboot will reconnect them after an hours flashing.

Whilst the cameras are flashing red a Speedtest works perfectly giving me my expected down and up speeds and I can 'surf' quite happily.

Is there a tool that I can run on my PC that will allow me to see if it's my PN connection blipping or whether I can pin the blame on Y-Cam?

I've started a BQM as a starting point: (ignore the red, my router wasn't set to respond to ICMP requests)

Thanks

Re: Evening random disconnection

There's the odd disconnection here and there showing, but the connection is coming back up straight away after:

A line test also isn't showing any issues.

Re: Evening random disconnection

Thanks Chris

Those blips do correspond to some of the disconnections.

With those small blips would I be given a different dynamic IP or would it retain the existing one? I have a separate modem and router.

I'm trying to pin down the recent incidents where the cameras have only reconnected after a router reboot.

thanks

Each disconnect would give you a different IP address

Re: Evening random disconnection

Thanks

Sods law has kicked in and since I started the BQM I've not had any Y-Cam issues. I'll leave it running for a while just in case.

Re: Evening random disconnection

6pm yesterday (15th) - brief disconnect for a few minutes. Currently at time of posting showing on the monitor in the first post. That answers one question, not Y-Cam in that instance.

The monitor in this instance is still updating because my WAN IP hasn't changed.

Re: Evening random disconnection

AFAIK I'm not being disconnected but those top red bands indicate lost packets, and lots of them.

From 21:00 there is no activity at all from my end.

Just trying to understand what it is. ThinkBroadband seem to suggest it's capacity at the ISP being reached.

Re: Evening random disconnection

Update

I have, on instruction from support, powered off the modem and router, together, for about 3 minutes.

Interestingly the modem has connected again using the same IP Address !!!

The thought was that I should have got a new Dynamic IP.

Let's see how that goes.

Nope, same IP address 😞

Rebooted modem and router for 10 minutes - same IP address back even though I'm dynamic and PN have confirmed I'm Dynamic.

I give up .................

We experienced an issue with some of the links in our data centres. The chunk of green around 5pm will have been when we were running on reduced capacity. The packet loss is something we're working hard to get to the bottom of. Some work has been completed today that may help the situation and our investigations are ongoing.

Re: Evening random disconnection

Thanks Bob

The Colindale fix seems to have sorted mine out. I did have a forced IP change over the weekend so I've deleted my old TBMonitor.

New one looks fine:
