Download speed

Hi,

I recently switched from the 38mbps to the up to 76mbps package to take advantage of the fact my line can handle around 55mbps. After having my upload capped at 2mbps (and contacting tech support) it is now indeed around 55/10. This reflects in multi threaded speedtests, however single threaded downloads are lucky to get over 10mbps. It doesn't matter where I download from, it is all at the same low speed.

Is there a problem on the network? Before my upgrade I would consistently max out the 38 on single threaded downloads any time of the day.

Thanks.

Re: Download speed

That looks like the gateway you are logged into is having performance issues. The gateway is assigned when the router connects to Plusnet.

Gateway checker is http://users.plus.net/@gateway_custom?debug-ip=yes

The gateway name is shown in the text and its actual IP address  is shown in the array output. There are multiple IP addresses per named gateway.

Changing gateway's may help, it does for me. You change by logging onto the router, click "Disconnect", wait a minute, click "connect" and then see if Plusnet have assigned a new gateway once the connection is up and running again.

Re: Download speed

 Hi,

Gave that a try, left my router off for a few minutes. But I still connected to the same gateway, psb-ir01 - I'm guessing I'm on the new network as I've never seen that one before.

Does it take longer to potentially choose another or does that now not apply?

Many thanks.

Re: Download speed

You are on the new network, so not so easy to gateway hop, if even possible.

But out what is the problem? You seem to be getting the 55/10 you were expecting?

Re: Download speed

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I am on multi threaded downloads, single is 10.

However within the last 20 minutes, single has now increased to 55, so I presume it was congestion or a change has been made.

Re: Download speed

If it's lower regularly then it's worth reporting as a fault to us. It may be SVLAN congestion or similar so would be good to investigate.

Re: Download speed

It was low entirely throughout the day yesterday.

Re: Download speed

I am however getting the odd amount of packet loss here and there. I presume this is because my line is training and 55 potentially may be too much for it?

Re: Download speed

Hi,

The 10mbps on single threaded downloads has returned. As per Chris Parr advice, please advise how I can log a fault for this to be investigated.
