Download lower than sync speed

I am currently showing a sync speed of around 77,000 kbps but various speed tests show a maximum download of only 58-59 Mbps - I would expect to be getting at least 70?  My profile seems to be showing 61 for some reason - can someone please review this for me?

Estimated line speed:80Mb (This may vary between 72.2Mb and 80Mb) - Checked on 2017-01-23 14:49:01

Re: Download lower than sync speed

Current line speed should be the same as the IP profile - about 74.8Mb/s

Now that may not be restricting you but it could be - try using Chat to get it changed

Re: Download lower than sync speed

I have just been on chat and they changed it - now showing current line speed as 78 Mbps but unfortunately no change on the download speed - still 58 Mbps.  Should I reboot my router or does it take time for the raised limit to come into effect?

Re: Download lower than sync speed

@brookheather

Yes you will need to reset the PPP link (the Plusnet login) that the router does. To avoid issues with DLM, please make sure that you log onto the router and click "disconnect", wait 30 seconds and then click "connect" again. There is no need to reboot the router as that will cause a re-sync to the FTTC cabinet which isn't needed here.

Re: Download lower than sync speed

I tried both disconnecting/reconnecting and also rebooting the router and I am still stuck at exactly the same 58 Mbps on the speed testers - there must be something still limiting my download speed...

Re: Download lower than sync speed

Is someone from Plusnet able to review my line settings as I still seem to be capped at 58-59 Mbps.

Re: Download lower than sync speed

Fix

Thank you for your PM @brookheather

I've tested your line, and the test I've run has indicated a downstream sync of 0 which shows something's wrong.

xDSL Status Summary

Circuit Sync Status

: In Sync

Downstream Line Rate

: 0.0

Upstream Line Rate

: 20.0

The service isn't banded though:

Profile Name 0.128M-80M Downstream, Retransmission Low - 0.128M-20M Upstream, Error Protection Off

Looking through the speed profile history on your account before you asked us to increase it, delta reports from suppliers set the profile at 61000 kbps which indicates the sync is below the low end of your estimate of 72 Mbps.

If you haven't already I'd advise to try testing your throughput with your router in your test socket, explained here: https://community.plus.net/t5/Library/Testing-From-The-Master-Socket/ba-p/1322242

Then, raise a fault to us at http://faults.plus.net if you need to.

Re: Download lower than sync speed

Thanks for testing - I will raise a fault - current speed test using BTW shows download 58.69 Mbps.

Aye, probably best to raise the fault. Smiley

Re: Download lower than sync speed

@Anoush BTW speed test is showing my IP Profile is still 61 Mbps:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 58.8 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 40 Mbps-61.11 Mbps .
 Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 61.11 Mbps

Re: Download lower than sync speed

The Openreach engineer came yesterday and apparently found a fault with my line in the cabinet and I believe he moved it to a different connection as he had to go to the exchange to sort this out.  I asked him to do a DSLAM reset as he had now cleared a fault - initially he was saying that I should be happy with 58 Mbps download as that is a good speed but I said surely I should be getting the maximum my line supports.  Anyway this morning at 7.35am my router lost internet connection and I had to reboot it - I was getting repeated "timeout waiting for pado packets" for some reason.

My line speed is now showing as 77.2 Mbps and similar on the BTW IP Profile and my download speed is now back to normal at over 70 Mbps so looks like it's all sorted now.

Re: Download lower than sync speed

Excellent, unfortunately we can't remotely reset the profile on FTTC lines so it's really good to see the speeds have increased again.
