Dodgy line ?

These are the stats I've just pulled from our router (See table below)

Interleaving depth of 1075. ES/Hour of 325 and RSCorr/RS % at 2.6% seems crazy high, no ?

I've also attached an FEC report which shows over 10,000 FEC / minute. (not to mention download speeds are about 35% of what they ought to be given how close we are to the cabinet a 300 metres at most)

If it looks like a bad line, where do I start ? How can I find where the problem originates (ie. before it gets to our property or on our property).  I suspect the phone wiring in our house is pretty dated (20-30yrs old) .. and takes a rather circuitous route around the house before ending up at the master socket.. (one possibility) but also arrives at our property via an overhead cable (another possibility)

Do I speak to BT, or a phone engineer.. or even Plusnet  ?

Re: Dodgy line ?

Do you use a (landline) telephone (have to ask these days)?  Is there any audible noise on the line when using a telephone?

Re: Dodgy line ?

I hooked up a landline phone to the master socket and dialled 0 (just to get rid of the dial tone), while the phone was waiting for me to dial the next digit I could hear a faint whitenoise, how loud and how crackly is hard to say, as I have no reference point.

Hi gisajob,

Testing hasn't highligted any issues but I can see you've reported a fault with us which is definitely advisable.

Re: Dodgy line ?

Hi Adam, thanks for looking into it. When was the testing performed ?

The reason I ask, is I managed to get an ex-BT engineer out this morning and he moved our master socket to the point where it enters the property and connected the modem/router there, hopefully cutting out any (house-side) interference.

Our ES/Hour is now at zero, and we haven't had any CRC errors since the change was made, our DS attenuation has improved from 22.3 to 21.8, and our Max downstream rate has gone up to 62Mbps and the bearer downstream rate is now 52Mbps (seems quite a difference still ?).

Power dBm has gone up from 12.8 to 13.4

However, our interleaving level is still 3 with a depth of 1223.. is this likely to come down over time ?

Re: Dodgy line ?

Interleaving is applied by DLM and removed by it when it feels the line is error free enough to do so, sadly this can take time ranging from days to even weeks all depends how stable the line stays.

Re: Dodgy line ?

Since moving the master socket to close where the phone line enters the building there's still a heck of a load of FEC errors - as many as 15,000 per minute (see attached), and the speed test results (when connected directly to the router) is yielding ~ 45Mbps, when given the distance involved it should be 65+

When is the fault I've reported likely to be fixed/investigated? I'm mindful that we are within the 14 day joining period and if this can't be resolve then I'll have to consider cancelling.
