Disconnects

My fibre line has always been stable. When with Sky it would stay connected for 30+ days at a time. With PN, it is usually around 10 days at a time. The last couple of days, there has been a disconnection around the same sort of time. The log shows it seems to take a while to reconnect. Below are the logs for the current 2 events, can anyone see anything sinister? Billion 8800NL router btw. Up stream has been reducing with each re- sync and even though I am on a 40mb product, downstream is still reducing.

Re: Disconnects

It seems to have only been the past two days however interleaving is set on high and our tests are detecting what's known as a bridge tap

If it continues we may have to get a engineer out.

Re: Disconnects

Thanks for the reply. What's a bridge tap please? Interleaving on high. isn't that indicative of a unstable line?

Re: Disconnects

A bridge tap is normally a sign of some faulty internal wiring and could be the reason why Interleaving is on a high level
Was your install done by a Openreach engineer or a Kelly's communications engineer?

Re: Disconnects

It was done by Kelly about 2 years ago. A new faceplate was fitted, but there are no extensions from the master socket. Bloke was here for about 40 minutes, set up the modem and Sky box then went off to activate it.

Kellys?    I've been blaming Openreach for not turning up and doing my install last week.  Anyway did not know Sky box could be used how do I go about using it please?

Re: Disconnects

No, that was when the fibre was installed, 2 years ago by Sky. Self install to PN from them as fibre already installed.

I'd recommend keeping a eye on it for now.
If it keeps happening let us know and we'll look into it further.

I see there was another disconnect overnight and sync is rapidly deteriorating  Sad

I'm testing the line again now so you may see another drop.

Re: Disconnects

We see the bridge tap is still detected. I cannot see your previous sync rates at the moment. If you need an engineer, please let us know so we can try to get it arranged if things continue to deteriorate.

Re: Disconnects

Previous rates were up at 49, still haven't gone below my 40 product speed yet, but speed tests are running at 34Mb now instead of 37MB, using the TBB tester. My attainable rate has also decreased from 59mb to 54mb, so something is amiss somewhere. I have brought it up early in the hope of "nipping it in the bud" before it has a chance to get out of hand and become a full blown fault. I will be away from tomorrow, so won't be able to monitor it for a week, I just hope it doesn't get worse while i'm away, whatever it is.

Re: Disconnects

I can't say it won't,, but I would have thought you'll be OK.
However, if it does get worse, or you want someone out, raise us a ticket (faults.plus.net), post the ticket ID here and one of us will get it raised for you and get an engineer booked.

Re: Disconnects

The connection's been up for 10.5 days now with no drops, so heading back in the right direction. I noticed in the stats about the interleaving, which it has been said has been applied quite heavily:
D (interleaver depth) 2271 176
I (interleaver block size in bytes) 37 95
I have seen examples of other peoples interleaving with Billion 8800 routers, and their interleaving is in single figures. Is it likely this interleaving may reduce if the router is rebooted? Is morning still the best time to reboot on a fibre connection?
