Difference between two figures in router, help please?

Hi, In my router it shows:

6. Data rate: 19999 / 71009
7. Maximum data rate: 22506 / 68518

To me it looks like they are the wrong way around. So is data rate the max I could potentially get and then maximum data rate, what I am currently getting? 68 is what the IP profile is set at.

Also one other thing. Does the noise margin etc automatically adjust or does it require router restarts?

Thanks,

Scott

Re: Difference between two figures in router, help please?

I did a restart and it now shows:

6. Data rate: 19999 / 71867
7. Maximum data rate: 22670 / 71034

IP profile is now 66mb. Anyway to quickly increase the profile?

Hi @scottrc,

I'm sorry that your connection profile has dropped down to 66mbps. I've adjusted this now - please reboot your router and this'll take effect right away.

Your line is managed by dynamic line management (DLM) so things like SNR margin adjustments will happen automatically and you won't need to reboot your router.

@scottrc To answer your original Qn. The data rate is the actual sync speed between the modem and cabinet, the max data rate is the calculated sync rate your line might be capable of, based on the current speed, SNRM and error rates. Your profile is always a few Mbps lower to allow "repeats" for corrupted transfers and avoiding a large amount of buffered data.

My figures are data rate (sync) 9999/55000 as I am on a 55/10 connection and max rate 29308/92131 and profile 53. A while back I was on an 80/20 connection for a short time (moved from 40/20 to 55/10) and my sync was 19999/79998.

Hi, when you first adjusted it, it worked in the PlusNet profile at 78mb, but it's dropped back down to 66mb again. In the router it's still showing data rate and maximum data rate as 70+mb.

Re: Difference between two figures in router, help please?

Hi @scottrc ,

Thanks for your post.

I've had a look at your line and your profile is currently set to up to 80mbps, with you currently receiving an average of 71.8mbps.

To put that into context, your line estimates are between 52.2mbps and 72.4mbps, so the figures you're seeing aren't anything to worry about.

Have the speeds stayed the same at around 66mbps, or have they dropped further?

Re: Difference between two figures in router, help please?

Hi, thanks, when I go to https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed it says 66.4mb and also when I do the BT wholesale speed test and further info, it says IP profile 66.4mb. I just did a speed test on http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/speedtester/ and it gives 63.4mb/18.4mb. So it never seems to go above that. I guess I just have to hope BT raise it eventually, because the router always shows 71-72mb. But like you said, nothing to worry about really. I was getting 40mb and then re-wired the home and now use cat7 cables and get 63-66mb so I'm still happy.
