Devices disconnect when loading film

Hi

Have plusnet and skybox. 

Whenever I am downloading a film from sky all other devices (iPads/phones etc) shut down in terms of wifi. The film takes forever to download. In fact like tonight, the film simply does not download. BUT my PC which is connected directly via an ethernet cable carries on as normal. 

Can this be rectified with a better wifi hub? Think I might go elsewhere. Been with Plusnet for sometime now. Never really worked.

If you haven't done so already it might be worth changing the wireless channel and see if the same issue happens.

Thanks will try. Is there a better router? I see that there are 3?? Just suck s slow narrow service in a fibre area.

Which one of the 3 routers do you have?

The Hub One is the latest router offered (and is hardware wise the same as a BT Home Hub 5 Type A).

Most "free" routers are free for a reason, they are manufactured down to a price.

Many people buy their own device but if you are thinking of going elsewhere anyway I would hold off until you have moved and seen if the newer ISP offers a better router. But at the cheap end of the ISP market, that isn't really likely to happen. The more expensive ISPs may supply a brand named device, e.g. Zen offer a £139 FRITZ!Box 3490 for free on their fibre products.

Good advice. I fifn't even know i could use my own? I have the middle one of the 3 in the line up ( stands vertical).
Does it have to be one of those plusnet or can i open market it?

you could try home plugs , and plug sky box direct wired

See what you mean te sky.. ethernet it to the router... good idea. Need a bloody long cable though!

You can use any device that is suitable for FTTC . A good list of all-in-one modem/routers is maintained at http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,14436.0.html with discussions of the various devices. (it says VDSL2 in the title which is the technical name for the technology used in FTTC aka Fibre Broadband)
