Contract renewal with reduction in estimated speeds?

Hi everyone,

I've been privileged the past few years with a fibre cabinet about 150 yards from my house, meaning I've often maxed out at 80/20 conneciton rates with plenty room for improvement available.

But over the past few months this has dropped lower and lower. I would normally expect this as fibre connecitons to the cabinet increase.

But for a line so close to the cabinet, I would also expect the connection rates to remain maxed out? Any thoughs on this? It has got noticeably worse since the storms over the past few weeks which may be just a coincidence or it could be an indicator of a line issue ssomewhere (My line goes through the neighbour's Lime tree!)Capturefewf.JPG

Hi @wayyoung,

Thanks for getting in contact. Sorry to hear about your issues.

I have tested your line and everything seems to be in order.

May I ask if you are running your speed test over Wifi ?

Cheers

Re: Contract renewal with reduction in estimated speeds?

Hey Thomas,

Thanks for asking.

No it was a wired connection direct into the router.

When my line was installed I had a constant connection rate of 80Mbps. My router reported a max attainable rate of 115Mbps which I took with a large pinch of salt but perhaps an indication of how close and fast my line was.

In the past few months, since BT relocated some lines and cabinets in town, there has been a reduction in my line speed despite your tests indicating no problems. It's still fast, just perplexing why it haas dropped off so much in the past few months.

Hi Browni,

That makes for interesting reading and was along my thoughts although.

Tonight my router is giving me theses kind of stats which just don't look quite right. I've never seen my SNR so low!

  Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps) 19999 73999
Max Rate (Kbps) 29201 61071
SNR Margin (dB) 11.1 2.8
Line Attenuation (dB) 10.4 10.7
Errors (Pkts) 0 0

Re: Contract renewal with reduction in estimated speeds?

Hi there,

I've had another test of you connection, found a few things but again not really anything of concern,  -

Downstream Speed 73.9 Mbps

Upstream Speed 20.0 Mbps

Estimated Line Length In Metres 253.1

Profile Name 0.128M-74M Downstream, Retransmission Low - 0.128M-20M Upstream, Retransmission Low

Like you possible pointed out SNR is not normally much of an issue on Fibre I can see if we can get this reset for you and we might be able to squeeze a little bit more from the missing 6mbps.

Feel free to monitor this and if it doesn't work the only way is likely to be getting an engineer out to you.

Hope this makes sense.

Regards

Kev

Re: Contract renewal with reduction in estimated speeds?

Hi Kev,

Thanks for giving this some time. I appreciate that.

Hopefully a reset will resolve but I'm not expecting much from it. This all came about when we have some cabinets moved in town, causing lots of faults and complaints. My work line was disconnected 3 times in 2 weeks and needed multiple visits to rectify. Both that and my home fibre havn't been the same since 😕

Regards,

That's understandable, @wayyoung.

Let us know how it goes.
