Contract Speeds

I've seen mention here of the upload speed being 1.9mbps on upgraded contracts.

I've just been PN cold called and they reckon my speeds won't change. Currently I'm on a legacy 40/10 contract which is giving me an actual 24/4 (ally telephone wires).

They told me, several times when I queried, that my speeds won't change, but, went on stating 38 down 1.9 up, so, surely my upload speed will go down !!!

The 'legal bit' on the main site also states 'up to 38 and 1.9'

Are telesales wrong ?

Re: Contract Speeds

Yes they are sales people who will tell you anything to get a sale, a new contract will put you on the 40/2 service so you would lose upload speed. You would have a hard time trying to get back on the 40/10 service.

Re: Contract Speeds

You would be better to ring yourself @Kremmen  tell them your leaving because of the 1.9 upload ,  they should be able to keep you on your present speed Thumbs_Up

Re: Contract Speeds

Thanks, just what I thought.

I mentioned quite a few times during the call that posters here had confirmed, and complained about the reduction to 1.9 and I was told each time that 'we' are wrong.

I'd better not post my true thoughts on sales then.

The other thing I noticed when going through the packages, just to check, the one that is closest to what I already have is no saving, same price circa £17 a month.

I turned them down because I wasn't convinced they were correct. They said they would call back.

Re: Contract Speeds

Sorry to hear about the poor experience you've had over the phone

From what I can see you're on 55/10 as per of the bulk migrations we did from 40/10 last year.

Whilst a recontracting shouldn't change your speeds, ultimately it's really down to the agreed contract. if you're wanting a better deal, it may be worth discussing this with our Customer Options Team on 0800 013 2632.

Re: Contract Speeds

Thanks

I've had another uncomfortable call.

As you say, I'm on 55/10. All the current published contracts are 38/1.9

I don't want to lose my upload speed. The sales calls initially quote 38/1.9, then when I query this they change tack to "you will get the same speed as now". It can't be both.

The point of the call was to get me to take PN telephone but when that was mentioned, late into the call,  my current annual payment to BT, with some months to run, got in the way.

In the end I was offered a £3 a month discount to switch but with the 1.9 hanging in the air I declined, much to sales disgust.

The point is,  are there any upgraded contracts that still offer 55/10 ?

Re: Contract Speeds

@Kremmen  the only way to get 55/10 is to move from Plusnet to another ISP who are now offering 55/10 Thumbs_Up

it does not look like Plusnet will offer this untill the change in prices next april Shocked

Re: Contract Speeds

Thats what I thought.

I don't like these type of pushy calls where they won't take no for an answer. I tried my hardest not to be rude, and succeeded.

Anyway, Truecall will now handle this number.

Re: Contract Speeds

When i was on the 40/20 package they briefly offered, I called up due to a price increase to see what deal they could offer, I was told any offers would basically mean being recontracted on a 40/2 package. It's inevitably why I used the get out of jail free card of the price increases to migrate away from PN.

Re: Contract Speeds

They may well be losing me as a mobile customer too now, to the newly launched three owned MVNO SMARTY.

You can manage your account entirely from a dashboard, they have really good (self) help centre, and if you cant find answers there, a fully functional chat service that's available 12 hours a day, seven days a week.

Not to mention simple plans and they refund you any unused data each month (no roaming or international calls yet, but they're coming)

Re: Contract Speeds

Thanks again for the info.

I don't want to leave PN but 1.9 upload would be a deal breaker as I need more. My periodic upload to the likes of Dropbox takes anything up to 20 minutes now at 4.5 to 5 Mbps, doubling that would be a time waster.

Also, as posted above, I was changed from 40/10 to 55/10 some time ago. Looking back through my speed logs I did jump from 20Mbps to 24Mbps a while ago. The timing would be about right. Going back to 38 would likely see my download drop accordingly.

I only get a % of my contract speed due to 800 metres of ally phone wires between the FTTC box and my outside pavement connection.
