Re: Constantly need to reload web pages?

Thought I would just post to say that this wen't quiet for a while, but over the Christmas break, with using it more etc it has been really noticeably annoying.

Going to give a BT Hub 6 a go I think to see if the situation will improve.

Would it be possible for you to also double check the line to see if any faults are present currently?

Re: Constantly need to reload web pages?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I don't get it either. I will give another router a go and see if my issues are resolved. Just gotta find the right one Grin

Re: Constantly need to reload web pages?

Random thought - is it worth manually adding DNS entries for one or two of the affect devices to see if that alleviates the issue?

Plenty of different ones to try.

https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

https://whatsabyte.com/internet/best-public-dns-servers/

If it does then you might need to look at the Business version of the BT Smart Hub 6, as the Home version has fixed DNS entries in the same way as the Hub One does.

Re: Constantly need to reload web pages?

I’ve read through your thread again and more importantly the test results in my post, and I’ve noticed that the bridge tap is back. Is your modem still plugged into the test socket or back where it was?

Re: Constantly need to reload web pages?

Hi Gandalf,

The router is in the standard socket. Should I retry the test socket?

Re: Constantly need to reload web pages?

I am guessing the answer to that will be yes.  Logically when the line is re-tested the bridge tap will no longer be detected.

If you have a google for bridge tap you will soon see what effects are likely from it being present.

Re: Constantly need to reload web pages?

@coatseh

Do you have anything that takes its power from the telephone line? If so this can present itself as a bridge tap. Several years ago I had a similar problem caused by an add on call blocker that was 'self powered' from the phone line. I would not trust old wired hands free speakerphones either.

Re: Constantly need to reload web pages?

@coatseh,

Yes please plug it back into the test socket and we'll retest to compare. If it shows no bridge tap (which as vultura has noted it should logically show) then something internally is likely causing an issue.

Re: Constantly need to reload web pages?

The router is no longer in the socket. I have put it in the test socket- please re run the tests.

I also will add that only the router is plugged in to the socket. I don’t have a home phone.

Could a micro filter cause the issue at all?

Re: Constantly need to reload web pages?

I should also add, having it in the test socket doesn’t really change the situation.

I might be confused or misreading something, but in post 13 you mentioned have phone and broadband in master socket.

You mean it doesn't stop the pauses you experience?  It might not, but if it eliminates issues on internal wiring in your apartment or within the apartment block then it will help PN support identify what is the problem.  Plus if there is an internal fault and an engineer visits then you may well end up being charged, better to know if that is likely to be the case before you book a visit I feel.

Re: Constantly need to reload web pages?

Apologies.

To confirm:

I thought there was a phone connected at first, but there is not. I have a phone but it’s not even connected or switched on.

I have a micro filter in which only the hub one is connected.

It’s currently in the test socket.

No need to apologise.  Thanks for clarifying the equipment that is connected.
