Connection dropping after power cut

Hi, After a 7 hour power cut today my internet connection keeps dropping.  Could the power cut have damaged the router or could it be that the signal takes a while to come back properly?

Fix

The chances are the power cut could have upset the router. It may be an idea to reset it - once.

Re: Connection dropping after power cut

Hi @AB28

I'm sorry to see your connection's dropping after a power cut.

Line tests aren't showing any issues and things look to be stable since last night.

Are you still having problems?

Re: Connection dropping after power cut

Hello @AB28

Thanks a lot for reaching out again and I'm sorry for the issues you've been having. A visual radius shows a huge disconnection over the weekend, which I can't see the cause of retrospectively, however the connection now appears to be back to normal. Can you please describe the problems you're having?

Re: Connection dropping after power cut

Hi, there was a power outage down my road Saturday night and most of Sunday.  Since the power has come back on my iPad keeps disconnecting from the WiFi.  I think the power outages must have damaged the router.

Re: Connection dropping after power cut

Thanks for getting back to me @AB28

Have yiou tried giving the router a Factory Reset? This will re-configure the wireless channels on it to those best suited for your environment. If you'd like, I can go into the router settings remotely and make a few adjustments on there, which are known to improve your wireless connectivity. This will drop the WIFI on your wireless devices  for a moment or two though, let me know. Smiley

Re: Connection dropping after power cut

Hi, I did try the putting the pin in the small hole at the back of the router, is that factory resetting?  If you could remotely go to my router settings that would be good.🙂

Re: Connection dropping after power cut

Yeah that's to give the router a factory reset @AB28 Smiley

Don't worry about changing anything else on your end though, I've just gone into the router and have tweaked a few settings which are likely to improve your wireless service.

I’ve run a little tool on our end called Smart Wireless, this scans your local area and adjusts your router’s WIFI channels to those best suited for your environment. I’ve also split the SSID’s on your router, giving you the choice of whether to connect to the 2.4GHz or 5GHz wireless band.

The general rule is thumb when deciding which band to connect to:

2.4GHz – Slower WIFI speeds, but covers a greater range
5GHz – Faster WIFI speeds, but covers a smaller range.

So for instance, if your TV is in the same room as the router, I’d connect it to the 5GHz band, giving it faster speeds for streaming etc.

Information of splitting, or turning off the 5GHz band can be found here:

See how you get on for a few days and let us know how it goes. Smiley

Re: Connection dropping after power cut

Thank you for looking into this.  I’ve swapped over to 5GHz and will give that a go for a while and if no good will swap back.  I’ll let you know in a few days how I get on.
