Re: Buffering with full speed? YouTube, Plex BBC

For now I am running a VPN when I want to watch YouTube as that fixes the issue for me, just goes to show it’s a routing issue and not speed. I’m not sure about the IPV6, could be something to do with that, if this issue isn’t fixed soon I will look to implement the ipv6 bridge that @Anonymous posted on the 1st page of the thread.

Getting similar issues here. Only occurs with Youtube. NowTV seems to take ages to start when it was previously instantaneous.

Would also add that rerouting via a VPN fixes the issue so I would presume this is definitely a routing issue.

I have the same issue with YouTube, suspected it was peering or config. Have you had an official response from Plusnet support?

No, but I'll be raising a new support ticket with them tomorrow morning as this has been going on for a few days now.

I will also contact support tomorrow.

Having to use a VPN to watch YouTube in the UK is not 'doing us proud'.

Using a VPN is quite likely to stop you from watching Netflix,  as Netflix are quite efficient in detecting and blocking most but not all VPNs, tunnelling protocols (like 6in4 ), and caching proxies (such as Squid).

+1

I can confirm that I am also effected by this issue. I’m located in Newcastle.

Using PingPlotter and pinging YouTube.com. All hops are faultless except one:

133.hiper04.sheff.dial.plus.net.uk

Currently YouTube is unwatchable and email client struggling to sync with data centre in Glasgow. Any solution for this as yet?

Steven.

Re: Buffering with full speed? YouTube, Plex BBC

This is best effort... 96% packet loss from one hop... I take it this is located in Sheffield?

I see the same, massive packet loss with 129.hiper04.sheff.dial.plus.net.ukAnnotation 2020-03-09 063202r.png

Community moderators saw fit to remove my post reporting the same issue here [-Censored-]? here it is again....

I am getting 70-90% Youtube packet loss from: 129.hiper04.sheff.dial.plus.net.uk

Re: Buffering with full speed? YouTube, Plex BBC

Plusnet could save a lot of forum effort by upgrading and reconfiguring their core routers so that pings are processed efficiently, I think...

This is a good article which explains what is being seen:

https://www.netbraintech.com/blog/limitations-of-traceroute/

What isn't being seen, unfortunately, is the cause of the problem   ☹️

Latency: Connection "fast" but internet sluggish? Bufferbloat FAQ
Black Holes: Worth noting that the Plusnet Hub One router has an MTU of 1488 bytes.

Re: Buffering with full speed? YouTube, Plex BBC

I also agree 100% with @InterZoom that ping tests and traceroutes don’t help with this issue, hops not responding to ping requests and the like, however people are trying to self diagnose a issue that’s being ignored by plusnet. If they responded or actually said, hey were looking into it that would be really helpful.

Also like @Anonymous stated using a VPN or similar gets spotted by Netflix, BBC iPlayer, ITV and the like, which also generates more headaches for us the end user. However it quickly proves that the issue is related to caching or routing on plusnet part.
