Bufferbloat

Why is my bufferbloat a 'D' star rating on Download and a 'C' on Upload.  What does this result have effect on? and what can i do to improve this? Test was taken on an Ethernet connection with only that device connected my ip profile is on the highest it can get for fttc.

What does this result have effect on?

Bufferbloat has the symptoms of increased latency (particularly when gaming), and can cause issues such as "buffering" when streaming video.

Bufferbloat can be improved by using your router's 'QoS' settings to artificially restrict your UPLOAD speed to 85 to 90% of unrestricted.
This helps your traffic flow control work more effectively WITHIN your router, rather than relying on dropping outbound traffic to regulate speed.
Try using the DSLReports speedtest to test your bufferbloat, and to tune your router's "QoS".
This tool also has some useful advanced settings for mucking about with traffic shaping and latency tuning.
You may also get further improvements if your router has traffic prioritization capability, and OUTBOUND traffic shaping - such as CoDel.

Re: Bufferbloat

I take it that a Score of  - D - D - C is bad then

Re: Bufferbloat

hello
I think I am getting bufferbloat when I use my upload, as my download goes very slow. (I'm on 38mb download and 1.9 upload)
DSL reports is giving me a rating of bufferbloat 'C', quality '-' (?) and speed 'C'.
But when the upload test is running the bufferbloat it almost always over to the far right.
I've got the Hub One, so there isn't anything I think I can do about it.
I don't do much uploading so I guess it's not really an issue.
