Bad Routing To EU?

I made a thread recently about problems with UDP bandwidth and gaming. Here is the thread.

 

I always thought it was something relatively local to me, bad quality line, congestion at the cabinet or exchange, but after some more testing, I've found it isn't such a local problem.

 

It seems to be a problem with routing to the EU. Running iperf UDP download tests I get masses of out of order packets and packet loss to EU servers as well as packet loss on the upload. I'm using public iperf servers which aren't always up and running, but over the last couple of months I've run tests to France, Germany, and the Netherlands and they all have the same results with packet loss and out-of-order packets at any time of the day, any day of the week. I've also tested on a hand full of American servers which NEVER have any packet loss or out-of-order packets even with tests at much higher bandwidth than those I do to the EU. Tests as low as 0.5mbs to the EU can have out of order packets and packet loss that increases with higher bandwidth. On American servers I can test at 20mbs+ with zero out-of-order packets and 0% packet loss.

 

All the EU servers I have tested on seem to have one thing in common. a hop through t2c3-et-5-1-2.nl-ams2.gia.bt.net [166.49.208.217]. I never hit this hop for American servers. I'm wondering if this hop is causing routing problems?

 

I really think it's out of order packets causing the general feeling of "being behind the server" when playing online.

 

Anyway, since there are no problems for American servers this obviously isn't a local problem or tests anywhere in the world would give the same results so a BT engineer won't be able to fix this.

 

Below are some poorly formatted test results. The tests to America are at the bottom showing no problems even with much higher bandwidth. There's even less jitter!
