BT advertising faster speeds

BT are now saying they are giving higher speeds for Infinity 1 will Plusnet be doing the same?

I have not noticed my speed having gone up from 32 Mb.

Re: BT advertising faster speeds

already being discussed https://community.plus.net/t5/Plusnet-Feedback/Faster-Standard-Fibre-Broadband-Like-BT/m-p/1328580#U... but in any case it only changes up to 40 to up to 55 so will make absolutely no difference to you

". but in any case it only changes up to 40 to up to 55 so will make absolutely no difference to you"

If it no faster how come they allowed to say it is faster?

Re: BT advertising faster speeds

It's faster for those with a line capable of going faster. In your case if your line is only capable of getting 32Mbps, then obviously that's all you will get, unless you can change something.

That's like asking why are Plusnet allowed to sell a 40/2 product then YOUR line is only capable of 32Mb.

@Oldjim's point is that your line can only achieve 32Mb, so upgrading to a 55Mb product is pointless.

Re: BT advertising faster speeds

Very naughty then as people will move from Plusnet etc. to BT thinking they are going to be faster.

Re: BT advertising faster speeds

Not really,  there is no reason why Plusnet couldn't offer the same 55Mbps packages.

Plusnet are probably already losing upgraders to fibre, when the customers realize that Plusnet only offers 40/2, when many other providers are selling 40/10 !

Re: BT advertising faster speeds

But BT plc would love Plusnet users (who are also BT plc customers, in case some people don't realise) to move up to BT Retail as they charge more so increasing BT plc profits.

BT Retail and Plusnet pay the same costs to BTW for line rental, FTTC/ADSL/FTTP, data and call charges, so BT Retail has a bigger margin than Plusnet.

As that, in my opinion, is why Plusnet will not sell all the same products as BT Retail. The plc wants a distinct upgrade path from Plusnet to BT Retail.

Re: BT advertising faster speeds

I wondered what BT were on about there. With all the spin in the ad it was almost like they'd come up with something new but then realised all they're saying is they won't cap people on their standard package quite so much.

Re: BT advertising faster speeds

The keyword is ' up-to ' 55mb so that depends on the line conditions and length.

They don't guarantee 55mb.

Re: BT advertising faster speeds

Sure, they have to be syncing around there or higher to benefit.

Re: BT advertising faster speeds

There are several points here -

Yes, the line would have to be syncing higher than 40Mb to have any increase on download speed, BUT the BT product has a 10Mbps upload speed which is likely to result in a speed increase for almost everyone on Plusnet's 2Mbps upload FTTC.

BT are upgrading their customers for no extra monthly charge, so some will gain, others may not - but it won't have cost them any more.

If you were a Plusnet 40/2 customer and saw the BT advert for 55/10, which would you prefer as the entry level product - assuming the package deal is a similar cost ?.

Re: BT advertising faster speeds

Is what they're going to offer tied in with their July price increases?
