BNG still not fit for purpose ? or something else ?

Long time plusnet user ... been with plusnet since 2013.

Ever since being with PlusNet Ive always had a stable sync and its never varied other than the last time which was a while now when there was the whole debacle over Huawei / ECI cabs and GINP cutting peoples synch speed.

Anyway I'm not sure if this is related to the BNG still not being fit for purpose limiting peoples throughput, or if this is something else. But heres current router stats

Heres what BT think I should be capable of (btw why I'm wondering if I'm wrongly being capped to downstream low - keep reading)

And heres what I get with a speed test (now for those of you who have been here long enough, before BT sunk its fangs into plusnet and before BNG were introduced, it use to be if I gateway hopped off a BNG I got at least 74/75 throughput, however now I cant escape BNG I'm ALWAYS limited to 69.8 )

So clearly - despite having MAX synch - why on earth am I limited to 69 ish throughput ? I can no longer hop off BNG so don't know if the well known problem with BNG limiting speed still exists, or if this a fault with the profile ? id love to know why BT DSL checker thinks my low throughput is 69.8 despite excellent synch ?

I don't know, all I do know and the reason for me posting, is do I raise this as a fault, or (being out of contract for over a year now and no one from plusnet customer retentions bothering to raise a finger) do I leave and go elsewhere ? sure its only a couple of MB throughput, but its the principle of the lack of service and poor plusnet infrastructure leading to frustration here.

Thanks

Definitely the bng circuit. The attached samknows chart for Nov/Dec 2016 starts with ptn-ag03 and changes to psb-bng01 on 29 Nov. The differences are consistent for my connections. Note that I am on a 55/10 connection with a static IP.

Hi
What does the BT wholesale speed test report and what is the BT IP profile for your line?

To find the IP profile conduct the speed test and then select further diagnostics.

Unfortunately at the moment I'm unable to test your line fully as there's an open trouble report at your exchange due to clear later today.

Can you run a BT Speedtest for me, ensuring you do the further diagnostics test after the first one completes. Checking what the line is profiled at would be good to know.

If you're interested in a new deal I'm sure our customer options team will be happy to discuss this with you.

I'm at work currently but will do later. I'm not aware of any exchange issues but I'll post the results asap.

Re: BNG still not fit for purpose ? or something else ?

Hi Chris,

Looks like this will need raising as a fault then. Despite being within threshold as per the BT DSL checker, its really not acceptable to see this kind of result. Bearing in mind I'm out of contract and I'm 99% certain this is the result of the dreadful BNG which I have seen in the past, BUT, I'm willing to give plusnet the benefit of the doubt here. But I know its not crosstalk or rein. Theres no explanation that I can think of other than the IP profile is wrong.

Re: BNG still not fit for purpose ? or something else ?

Ok so I tested again this morning.

Looks like BT wholesale test now shows the correct result and the speedtest result is ok

However I do still see the old BNG / routing / throughput issue exists because if I go to another speedtest server in the London area I see the issue still

So how can so much throughput be lost between 2 speedtest servers ? both those servers are capable of giving me full results, but its as if some servers are throttled / limited by the broadband network gateways ?

Anyway, I'm pretty sure its not an issue on my end so will leave it for now, but id like to think plus net is investing money in its infrastructure into more reliable routing / gateways.

Thanks
