Apple iMac and Macbook show wifi and ethernet by no internet

I run a small charity and have 3 x iMacs and a Macbook. Since August all has been fine (save a lot of signal drop-outs) until a BT engineer called to fix the signal issues. The only iMac that works, both ethernet and wireless is the newest iMac working on the OSMojave platform. The older ones are running on HighSierra and El Capitan. The MacBook also is running on OSMojave and that does not connnect either. All devices show that Wifi and Ethernet are connected, but there appears to be something stopping the signal . I have spent hours on the phone with Plusnet, Apple and time altering settings, turning the router on an off and the devices on and off, but still the problem is not resolved. Has anyone else had these problems? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Apple iMac and Macbook show wifi and ethernet by no internet

You could try splitting the 2.4 and 5GHz wifi bands, if you haven't already, it helps with Apple products.

Navigate in a web browser to 192.168.1.254.

Click Advanced Settings

Enter your Hub admin password when prompted (unless you've changed it, you'll find the default password on the settings card)
Continue to Advanced Settings.
Click on Wireless.
Click 5GHz tab.
Change 'Sync with 2.4Ghz' to No.
Change the name of the 'Wireless SSID' - I added a '_5' on the end.
Save the changes.

You can then select which one you want per device.

Another thought, have you disabled wifi when trying ethernet?

I have tried ethernet whilst wifi is off many times - this has not resolved the problem.

Re: Apple iMac and Macbook show wifi and ethernet by no internet

OK so the macs are getting an IP address from the router.

Actually scractch that it seems a bit low for the DHCP range of the hub one, have you manually set the IP address on the macs?

what happens when you try and ping google in the terminal:

ping www.google.com

Re: Apple iMac and Macbook show wifi and ethernet by no internet

I have not manually set the IP addresses on the Macs.

When I ping www.google.com my blue ‘progress’ bar only moves across 10% then stops.

FYI my iPad works wirelessly, as does a Smart LG TV.

If you go into Systems Preferences > Network and select Ethernet does it look similar to:

Re: Apple iMac and Macbook show wifi and ethernet by no internet

Yes - IP address is different, but router is 192.168.1.1, not 192.168.1.254
