Even if it is only cat5 it will probably be ok.
Cat5e is a minor tweak to the Cat5 spec to deal with increased crosstalk.
Assuming the wiring is properly terminated: all 4-pair, not too much untwist at each end and no really long runs, you will be fine.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Oh really? I thought you needed CAT5e for gigabit... well that's good news! 🙂

i managed to get an old home hub 4 from freecycle which has 1 gig port
might be worth an ask on your local freecycle
