Re: Another one not happy about the cut in upload to 2Mbps

Welcome to the community forums @mw25

Sorry to hear of the problems you've had trying to get this sorted out. Leave this with me, I'm just looking over the account now.

EDIT:

I've got an order placed to correct the speeds. This is expected to complete on Monday.

It may need some more work after this, but I'll be back in touch on Monday.

Re: Another one not happy about the cut in upload to 2Mbps

Apologies I didn't get back to you yesterday.

The order did complete yesterday as expected and I've now made sure everything on your account is as it should be. Could you let me know if you're still not getting the speeds you should be (You might also need to disconnect and reconnect first)

Thanks for your patience.

Re: Another one not happy about the cut in upload to 2Mbps

@HarryB Thanks for your reply.

I've run several speed tests - before & after a router reboot - and I'm getting 37 to 38 Mbps downloads (consistent with what I've had before) and between 7.2 & 7.4 Mbps for uploads (it had dropped to 1.7 last week).

The upload speed is now back to what I've been getting over the last 12 months  However, from checking old speed tests, I used to get upload speeds around 12 Mbps (never had more than this) but this has gradually reduced to around 7 over the last 2 years.  Any thoughts on this ?

From reading this & other threads, I see 55/10, 40/10, 40/20 etc..  Not seen these mentioned on my package - it's just referred to as Unlimited Fibre. What package am I on ?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Re: Another one not happy about the cut in upload to 2Mbps

The speeds you're seeing do seem in line with the estimates for your line shown at http://dslchecker.bt.com

Featured Products

Downstream Line Rate(Mbps)

Upstream Line Rate(Mbps)

Downstream Range(Mbps)

WBC FTTC Availability Date

WBC SOGEA Availability Date

Left in Jumper

  High Low High Low
VDSL Range A (Clean) 47.9 35 10.3 6.9 -- Available -- --

Unlimited Fibre is currently sold as 40/2.

However you signed up to it originally back when we sold it as 40/20. Any customers that were on 40/20 and haven't changed package since were changed to 55/10.

Admittedly it's pretty confusing, but I hope this clears it up.

@HarryB

Thanks for the clarifications & for sorting this out.  Just a pity that other parts of PlusNet I initially spoke to couldn't sort this and were not as proactive as you.

Re: Another one not happy about the cut in upload to 2Mbps

Hi Guys, I'm struggling to get a reasonable renewal deal, having been with PN since 2004. Currently on the original Fibre 80Mb, for 4years+ However, I can only achieve 42Mb DL on a good day, but UL is good at over 12Mb. I've been advised that I can get a better price going to 38Mb which would be OK, but then I'm told I only get 1Mb UL, which is rubbish. They don't want to know about any other option.  I notice there's the 40/20 option or 50/10 option. Why should I have to compromise the UL speed by such a large amount, who decides what the punter gets...? Seems it's the sales dept!

Any comment or help before I give up and move?

Give up and move as you won't get anywhere with Plusnet

Of course you need to look at the options for 40/10 as TalkTalk don't offer it

Unfortunately that's not correct. We previously offered a 40/20 option, however we stopped selling this around June 2015. Following this, customers that were previously on 40/20 were moved to the 55/10 option in August this year, however 55/10 is not an option we have ever sold.

As it currently stands, we offer an 80/20 option, Unlimited Fibre Extra and a 40/2 option, Unlimited Fibre. I'm sorry to hear neither of our Fibre packages are suitable for you due to the speeds offered on them.

Unfortunately our Sales team can only sell the packages we currently offer.

Re: Another one not happy about the cut in upload to 2Mbps

Hello Harry, Thanks for the reply and clarification.

So if I get this right - you do have people on 55/10 but only as they were on 40/20 and have never moved package, therefore they're on a default legacy connection?

This is not an option moving from 80/20 (also a legacy connection) for me? Seems a little unfair as it's a massive reduction in UL as I said, the marginal reduction in DL I can accept.

It's not so much being unsuitable - I'll stay on the current 80/20 connection if needs be, but sales want me to pay more than last time, so having been with PN for 12 years that grates a bit :o(

I fully appreciate I'm wrong these days in expecting loyalty to be rewarded same as new customers.

Cheers

Re: Another one not happy about the cut in upload to 2Mbps

I'd suggest you should look at other ISPs to see who can offer you 40/10 or 55/10.

Re: Another one not happy about the cut in upload to 2Mbps

Thanks for all the comments.

Just spoke to sales and AT LAST managed to negotiate a slightly better price contract than the expiring one, so will be staying with PN -  it plays to persevere.
