Another drop in Speed

Switched to using the supplied Huawei HG612 in place of the Asus DSL-AC68U built in modem yesterday. Speed remained the same more or less but latency more than doubled. I was told by @Matthew Wheeler that G.INP is enabled on my (Huawei) cabinet, and so the Huawei modem ought to have been a sound option trying to get the speed going in the right direction for the first time in over two months.
Almost unsurprisingly, I've lost 10% from speeds Down and Up overnight, and almost inevitably my anger has set off again as speeds deteriorate towards previous ADSL levels from what was more than double that when FTTC VDSL2 arrived last year.
Is it just not possible to design and deliver reliable high speed broadband or are we all sharing a resource that is getting scarcer by the day?
Every new connection is extra profit for the providers, less for those paying for it, it seems.

Is your HG612 unlocked so you can read stats?
If not then it would be a good idea to do so, that way you can provide valuable information as to whats going on.

If your HG612 has not been used in a long time it may still have an old 'pre-G.INP' firmware, unlocking with the latest version would restore 'compatibility' if that's the issue.

Thanks w23, that's crossed my mind too. I'd assumed that once connected (for an hour or twenty) it would seek upgrades itself, probably overnight, but the high latency suggests to me that it's struggling with G.INP. I'm hoping that all will improve with unlocking and updating, but I've seen hope dashed so often with my connection, that I really shouldn't hope at all!!

Have spent some time today trying to upgrade the Huawei firmware and unlock it. Despite the stages following the instructions seemingly exactly, it would not accept the given Username and Password. The speeds and Pings are unaltered (Pings are high, up around the 35ms mark, or more, so probably safe to assume G.INP still isn't activated on the BTO Huawei. Am planning to reinstate the built-in modem on the Asus DSC-68U which I know is G.INP compliant.

User name and password should both be admin.
Also, it will take approximately 12 hours before DLM detects the HG612. Give it some time.
