argh, I note it's still wonky on here. I have replied - grab a coffee before reading - on the ticket. I shall, if we all agree, test before doing anything else. Thanks

I've had two cups of coffee in the time I spent reading that. Smiley Thanks for the detail though, I've added a reply.

Re: Amber power & red Broadband

30 hrs later on it's on the move...

5. DSL uptime: 1 days, 06:09:03
6. Data rate: 1688 / 19421
7. Maximum data rate: 1755 / 22477
8. Noise margin: 7.7 / 6.2

Obviously not enough to grab the phone yet, just pointing out that its moving

Re: Amber power & red Broadband

There is definitely a pattern, but I have no idea what/where it is!! Sad

So, after my excitement the other day, we all know I messed up and pulled the DSL, which generated

17:07:10, 07 Mar. (1199131.990000) PTM over DSL is up
17:06:38, 07 Mar. (1199099.940000) PTM over DSL is down after 1679 minutes uptime
17:06:38, 07 Mar. (1199099.940000) PPPoE is down after 1678 minutes uptime [Waiting for Underlying Connection (WAN Ethernet 7 - Down)]
17:06:35, 07 Mar. (1199096.940000) PPP LCP Send Termination Request [User request]

Now this one wasn't me!! Knuppel

Going right back, it's the same darn WAN Eth 7 every time!!!!!!

02:28:17, 09 Mar. (1319195.970000) PTM over DSL is up
02:27:44, 09 Mar. (1319162.940000) PTM over DSL is down after 2000 minutes uptime
02:27:44, 09 Mar. (1319162.930000) PPPoE is down after 1999 minutes uptime [Waiting for Underlying Connection (WAN Ethernet 7 - Down)]
02:27:41, 09 Mar. (1319159.820000) PPP LCP Send Termination Request [User request]

The SNR, at the time of posting, is.....

5. DSL uptime: 0 days, 09:41:55
6. Data rate: 2848 / 23222
7. Maximum data rate: 2898 / 22905
8. Noise margin: 6.4 / 6.0

Does anyone know where 'it' is? I think it's either a card in the exchange or a break in a cable, what else is there...?

All drops, whether it's pulling the DSL cable out (a physical break in the circuit) or 'out there, some where' does the same event.

SWMBO and MIL been chatting a few mo's ago, nothing heard as yet.

edit. So yesterday it was raining and the router went for 30+ hours before the SNR started dropping. Now after posting the above, the SNR has dropped after 10hrs!

5. DSL uptime: 0 days, 10:08:15
6. Data rate: 2848 / 23222
7. Maximum data rate: 2658 / 22391
8. Noise margin: 4.6 / 5.9

So did the rain 'help' by making an underground connection better as atm it's sunny (and windy - but don't think that matters).

Probably overthinking this.....?

Re: Amber power & red Broadband

Here's the state of play atm....

One cordless BT Diverse 7150 (need this due to disabilities) does hear static very noticeably Sad

One Binatone Concept Combo 3505 (using corded) also hears this, but it is very quiet (don't recommend as mic is ___ - rhymes with mic)

One Southern Telecom EM2116WH corded phone also hears it, again it is very quiet

Currently have someone fetching another new phone (so this = 3 new phones), a BT Duet 210 and will give results in due course.

With any of the above, obviously not the 210 yet, the SNR does not budge....

currently

5. DSL uptime: 0 days, 11:31:44
6. Data rate: 2848 / 23222
7. Maximum data rate: 2708 / 22454
8. Noise margin: 4.8 / 5.9

The only reason for yet another phone is to rule out the 2 cheap ones above Wink

edit 1 of ?

Within a few mins of after the last 17070 was tried, the SNR has dropped Huh

5. DSL uptime: 0 days, 11:51:42
6. Data rate: 2848 / 23222
7. Maximum data rate: 2450 / 22438
8. Noise margin: 4.0 / 5.9

(further testing is a thought to see if it continues to drop after hanging up)

edit 2 of?

Hmm, right, weird. When using the 17070 opt 2 (QLT) facility, during the quiet times my max data rate on the d/s increases every time I mash the F5 button. When she says "quiet line test" the max data rate decreases. Checked this multiple times and it the same every time. This is blowing my mind!! Crazy2

Re: Amber power & red Broadband

One cordless BT Diverse 7150 ... does hear static very noticeably

The speaker for this phone is just behind the plastic moulding and three persons have now heard the same noise, it's not as loud as earlier, but it is there.

Currently have ... a BT Duet 210

Not sure how close the speaker is to the moulding as the 'ear end' is deeper than the rest of the phone. Again 3 persons have heard* a faint static/whoosh/something type sound. When all 3 agreed, the receiver was replaced and oddly the phone rang!Huh This could be as it was it's first use as now it no longer rings when you end the call to 17070.

*albeit 1 of us could hardly hear it.

The 'results' from the hub, taken 5mins after the 'test' are:

5. DSL uptime: 0 days, 13:17:16
6. Data rate: 2848 / 23222
7. Maximum data rate: 2640 / 22817
8. Noise margin: 4.5 / 6.0

As it's quieter than early, what do I do now ..... wait .... report .... live with it ..... try when/if the SNR drops to less the 3dB ?

Re: Amber power & red Broadband

Another false start at 16:51 https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/1552236664457061955

2 hours later at 17:50 https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/1552240214845754355

Another 2 hours (just over) at 19:58 https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/1552247887388083155

Both the up and down SNR have frozen for some time now Huh at:

Noise margin: 5.7 / 5.7

(new one on me)

Data rate higher than max rate, can't recall noticing this before and there's no way I'm trawling through all this to check! Ok, so I looked Wink

Data rate: 2848 / 23222
Maximum data rate: 2834 / 22598

Re: Amber power & red Broadband

So, since around 19:30 the SNR both up and down has remained constant at:

5. DSL uptime: 1 days, 20:33:31
6. Data rate: 2848 / 23222
7. Maximum data rate: 2848 / 22650
8. Noise margin: 5.7 / 5.7

Whilst checking this, every 10 mins or so, this is the first and only time (IIRC) that it's not moved at all !! Huh

The upload data rate hasn't moved either !! Shocked

Nothing has moved or changed during this time here, the laptop is still (annoyingly) via ethernet, so what the heck has caused the SNR to settle perfectly?

Baffled is I Crazy3

edit.

If all of this has been caused by a buggy firmware, then I'll hit the roof!! Knuppel

If this continues then ignore the above sentence Wink

What's all this....?

Okay, so it did the usual handshake

20:19:51, 09 Mar. (1383487.050000) CWMP: Initializing transaction for event code 2 PERIODIC

The handshake was accepted

20:19:55, 10 Mar. (1469889.140000) CWMP: HTTP authentication success from https://dbtpnhdm.bt.mo

Oh, a gift, for me?

But I don't want it, though it insists

20:19:55, 10 Mar. (1469889.590000) CWMP: Initializing transaction for event code 6 CONNECTION REQUEST

I still didn't want it, but it put it in my hand

20:20:21, 10 Mar. (1469915.140000) CWMP: Download status=OK

I sign for it and you give me the counterpart

20:20:21, 10 Mar. (1469915.610000) transfer completed successfully

Is this a new product from Ron McDo?

My excitement was short lived....

04:00:01, 11 Mar. ( 80.480000) PTM over DSL is up
03:59:19, 11 Mar. ( 38.280000) WAN Auto-sensing running.
03:58:10, 11 Mar. (1497384.370000) PTM over DSL is down after 2969 minutes uptime
03:58:10, 11 Mar. (1497384.370000) PPPoE is down after 2968 minutes uptime [Waiting for Underlying Connection (WAN Ethernet 7 - Down)]

Re: Amber power & red Broadband

Bit lost for words tbh, can't get my head around this.

So I get the update at 20:20 on the 10 March, but the drop earlier (at 03:58 on 11 March) applied the update.

At least I found the reason for the auto wan sensing Wink

Why the delay? Should it have not updated there and then?

As of (just checked) now, I too am now on the 4.7.5.1.83.8.263 firmware. The only way I noticed was that the data sent and received had reset.

The down side to the new f/w ... the SNR has moved .... again!!Ticked_off

Re: Amber power & red Broadband

Thanks for the update, @DS

I'm honestly not sure why the update would be delayed after it hit your router (or if indeed it should be at all). My colleague @bobpullen may be able to shed some light on this.

In terms of the SnR margin, this probably will happen when there's a drop in connection (artificial or otherwise) and I'd expect to see that level out over time. How are things looking with the connection in general? Has the firmware update helped at all? I've checked your connection from our side and it's looking relatively stable at present.

Best wishes

Re: Amber power & red Broadband

Thanks for that Smiley

I do believe it should have updated as soon as it hit the router, but I'm happy to be corrected on that Wink

After receiving the file the SNR was pretty stable (at 5.7) but after the update took place it started moving again. Is there a relationship to this? Perhaps....?

Tis finding why it's going off that's muchas difficultas

Its hard to know how it is atm, though unhappy to report SWMBO commented that her phone was saying 'poor internet connection, please check your internet' this morning .... <sigh> but I now know it's AFTER the f/w update and she's never had it before!! And that's on the 2.4GHz Huh

The router hasn't really been 'worked hard' as yet, though IDK for certain as the forums have been hit n miss today.

No doubt I'll update at some point....

edit Eh, the forums are jumping to wrong post

@RandallFlagg

Erm, something else is 'seeing' the new f/w, our smart TV (near the router, fixed to the wall, nothing moved, but on 2.4GHz) has always had full signal - always!! It's now reporting a weaker signal Cry

Hope this isn't one step forward and two back ... Huh

Guess I need to 'monitor' this now too Ticked off
