ASUS DSL-AC68U slow download speed

Hi
I've replaced my openreach dsl modem with all in one ASUS DSL-AC68U and the download speed has dropped to 4Mbs upload speed looks fine.
I used the stock settings for FTTC for plusnet within the ASUS.
Any advice as to what I can do to get back up to 30Mbs, tried turning off over night.
Cheers vin

Re: ASUS DSL-AC68U slow download speed

I have found, in the past, that different cables can cause problems. I know not why, but changing between a "cross-over" (connector pins 2-3 and 3-2) and "straight" (2-2 and 3-3) cable can make a difference.
Have you run a BT diagnostic and checked your Plusnet profile?

Re: ASUS DSL-AC68U slow download speed

Thanks Phil, I used the original DSL cable.from the openreach box.
BT diags are showing 11Mbs download so slightly better.
I will see what cable is in the box and try again.

Re: ASUS DSL-AC68U slow download speed

Ok, since I both own and use an AC68U, here goes......
Firstly, the ASUS DSL-AC68U AC1900 is a good unit but only if setup correctly.
Secondly, providing the ASUS is set up correctly, you only need to consider the use of either a CAT5e or CAT6 patch lead between the Asus and the PC / switch of your choice.
Thirdly, use the phone lead/cable that came with the Asus.
If you need the settings for the Asus VDSL settings, I can grab some screen shots for you.
Have a look under "system log" then click on the "DSL LOG" tab. You will be looking to see what "Annex mode" you are on. It should be "Annex A", though it may be "Annex B" as it is in my case, though for what reason I do not know.
You may also find the other information on that page of use too.
The general log may also be worth having a look through too.

Annex B, as in your log, is technically correct for VDSL2 (the Annex has a different meaning to that used for ADSLx), I wouldn't worry about that to be honest.
Your sync speed (Data Rate) is maximum both down and up so there doesn't appear to be any issue with the modem settings.
What 'Current Line Speed' is reported here: https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed (login required)?

Re: ASUS DSL-AC68U slow download speed

I was thinking that line speed set at 4.5Mbs also upload speed 20Mbs capable so I am thinking my service got throttled in some way between the change over ?

From the looks of it you're connected at max speed, 80 down and 20 up...
I think the problem lies between your comp and the router.. make sure you're connected via cable and try again at http://www.speedtest.net
(Annex B is actually the right setting btw, but neither really matter as itll use B anyway)

Re: ASUS DSL-AC68U slow download speed

hmm
Just checked via wire and its clear I am only getting 4Mbs so it must be throttled at the exchange upload is 20Mbs.
I had this behaviour when the system was installed, it had to be reset at the exchange.
Logged a call see if I can get it fixed it seems obvious to me if I get 20Mbs upload there cant be a lot wrong with the setup.
Thanks for all of you input will summarise if fault is at the exchange.

To clarify, please, are you saying that 'Current Line Speed' (as my link and attached example) is set to 4.5Mb(/s)?  If so this is the entire problem and simply needs resetting by Plusnet

I've made a change to your account and sent your fault ticket back to you. Let us know if it hasn't done the trick.

Re: ASUS DSL-AC68U slow download speed

Thanks again Bob,
Fixed my issue, ASUS DSL-AC68-U now delivering 38Mbs downland and 20Mbs upload on default settings.
Thanks again for the fix, now able to run 400Mbs over wireless between NAS and laptop so very happy with that, and the one box solution.
Cheers Vin

Re: ASUS DSL-AC68U slow download speed

For my DSL-AC68U, I've used the config suggested here
http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,136784.0.html
Works fine, Down=78MBps, Up=18MBps
