hi
so ive had fibre for 6 or 7 months now from going with plusnet and having a new instalation. I used which speed checher this morning:
Response Time: 246ms
Download Speed: 19.2Mbps
Upload Speed: 7.7Mbps
I get annoyed by streaming anything. its slow. What do people think about these speeds? I live in Dover and it was done at 6.30am

What does the BT dsl checker say for your line? http://dslchecker.bt.com/
Please make sure that you don't show your telephone number in your reply.

Hello @joe7
To state the obvious, it should be much faster.
At a guess, and particularly likely if you upgraded from basic ADSL I would suspect your home phone wiring.
If you can live without the landline, plug the router into the BT test socket and leave it like that overnight then retest in the morning.
If the speed has improved I would then try a filtered faceplate.

Thank you. That is saying that, if you were on Unlimited Fibre Extra (80/20 service), you should be getting better than 64 Mbps download. I would expect that,if you are on Unlimited Fibre (40/10 service), you should be getting towards 40 download.
You didn't say whether you did the speed test on a wired connection or using wifi. If it was wifi, you need to repeat the test using a wired connection to eliminate any possible wifi problems.
I wasn't quite clear from your original post whether you were on ADSL with Plusnet before you moved to fibre. The reason I ask is that the speeds that you are reporting (if from a wired connection) seem about what could be expected from an ADSL service on your line.

You are reporting 33 Mbps down on a wired connection which is below the acceptable speed for the 80/20 service and doesn't sound too good if you are on 40/10 (I don't know what the fault threshold is for that service). Do you recall what Plusnet said was your speed range when your service started? Just to answer my own early comment, you are definitely on fibre.
I would be inclined to run through the checks here https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/connection-troubleshooting/ and then report a fault https://www.plus.net/apps/kbdfaults
It doesn't cost anything but time and gets Plusnet to look at your line.

Following the advice from @BrightonRock in message #9 is probably your best way to make progress.

You appear to have two problems. First your wireless speed is low and second your broadband speed is also low. Before looking at potential WiFi problems you need to get the broadband speed sorted.
The Plusnet procedure https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/connection-troubleshooting/ is long in the tooth and needs updating. Specifically it does not tell you to use the test socket. The way yoiu need to do it is.
1. Carry out the quiet line test by dialling 17070 and selecting option 2 using a wired phone.
2. Remove the front part of the BT master socket to reveal the test socket.
3. Plug a filter into the test socket (one would have been included with your router).
4. Plug your router into the filter. Do not plug a telephone in to the filter, leave the phone disconnected for this test.
5. Go to http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com/ and complete the BT Speed Test. When this completes continue to the further diagnostics page and run that. The results from this second test is logged and is accessible by Plusnet.
If this is reporting better than 40Mbps download you are probably wasting your time contacting Plusnet, come back here and seek further advice. If the BT test is showing that the speed is low then raise a fault with Plusnet.
When you get your speed back to where it should be let us know which router you have and further advice on wireless issues will be forthcoming.
I know it's a pain to jump through all these hoops but it is quicker in the long term.
