With Plusnet being part of the BT Group, does anyone know if Plusnet might follow BT and offer a 52Mbps Package?
Thanks In Advance

Nothing has been said yet from Plusnet but several posts on this as to when they will offer a 55/10

Thanks for the reply, the 55/10 would be ideal for me. If I could get a constant 52Mbps then I reckon I wouldn't need the 80/20 that I currently have. I don't have previous experience of FTTC on a BT Line; I am use to Cable DOCSIS with Virgin and when I was on the 50Mbps Speed, it never ever dropped below so I reckon that a reliable (always available and there) 50 download would do me fine.
Thanks Again

I'm surprised 40 vs 55 would make a noticeable difference. Anyway Plusnet is positioned as a budget brand so I think it's unlikely they will upgrade their 40 product to 52; they have to have some limitations compared to their pricier product from BT. I also doubt they'd want the confusion of both a 40 and a 55 product.

Its not the download speed difference thats important , But the upload increase to 10 rather than the meager 2

Very true. Fully agree 1.9Mbps upload means you struggle to Skype whilst the kids are gaming on their Xbox. Anyone high users on the current 38Mbps/1.9Mbps package able to let us know how it performs?

Im hoping for a 40/10 upgrade when new lower price comes into force next April as it will be cheaper at wholesale than the 40/2 product.

I'm on 40/2 and Skype for me is a 'no-go'. It buffers far more than being stable. A 55/10 would be my ideal package.

Thanks Pete, sounds like your in the same boat as me where it's just the Upload that causes a problem.
I have a friend on Talk Talk and he apparently gets 10Mbps Upload on his 40/10 package. I haven't been with Talk Talk for 8 years as I struggled to watch a youtube video with them. I think I would rather pay extra and stay on the 80/20 with Plusnet than go with Talk Talk.

May I ask, Is the lower price due to the exchange in your area or is it a Nationwide thing?

It will be nationwide as ofcom have decided 40/10 is the most important package for consumers and so the price will be lowered. It will cost a lot less than what openreach currently charge plusnet for 40/2, so it is only logical that plusnet will move to the 40/10 package as it means more upload speed for customers at a cheaper cost. A little fact for you plusnet is the only provider out of the big ones left that only offers it's customers 40/2. Sky, BT, TalkTalk, EE & Origin Broadband all now offer a 40/10 package as a minimum. As I was saying in another thread plusnet no longer have the advantage and need to act fast to keep customers especially when talktalk have even upgraded all their customers to 40/10.

All I can say is be careful if you get a 'cold call'
They insisted they could offer me a new cheaper contract with no speed change. I was extremely dubious, due to previous posts here, so I told them on both recent cold call occasions that I'm happy with my current 55/10, even if it is slightly more expensive, so I don't want to change. They got a bit annoyed with me.
I could see me being put on a 38/2 contract and having to fight to get it back, as per the verbal speed promise. Although the conversation went along the lines of "you should keep your current speed" with the word 'should' being their getout clause.
For me, when I was changed from 44/10 to 55/10 my download speed went from 20 to 24Mbps. I'm on a 800 metre ally cable from the fibre box so I only get a % of what the box is pushing out.

Thanks for the reply, very informative. Based on that it looks like I will switch over to the 40/10 profile if it becomes available.
Thanks Again

Thanks Kremmen, I'm lucky as I am under 250 meters away from the FTTC cabinet, so hopefully I would get the full capped speed on a 40/10 profile.
I have been connected for 5 days, whilst I have had no problems I have noticed the speed jump up and down (vary quite a lot). But it does seems to be stabilizing and the fluctuations seem to be less extreme. The first few days I would run a speed test and get 1Mbps download but I never had any devices buffer or lag.

I'm about 1 and a half miles from the cabinet I'm connected to and apart from a little hiccup, get an average of 37.4 from a 40/2 (sometimes hitting 38.6). Upload I get an average of 1.8 so is distance from the cabinet a factor?, I'm not so sure. I always thought that a clean line to the house mattered most. Of course, I could be wrong.
