35.72 Mbps Max Achievable Speed

Right now, BTW says my line has a 35.72 Mbps Max Achievable Speed.

Why is this number falling? When I first upgraded to 80/20, For the first month at least, I was getting 5MB/s down with no interruption to my service, and my Max Achievable according to BTW was 57Mbps. I was getting 14Mbps up, too. Now I'm getting 10-11Mbps up.

BTW says there's no fault, so what gives?

the answer is almost certainly "crosstalk" from adjacent lines

How do I find out which lines, so I can physically remove their phones from their walls, and shove them where the sun don't shine? (Manchester, obvs)

In all seriousness, though, this needs fixing, right? My service should not be degenerating.

At present one of the biggest and growing problems with BT’s FTTC technology is the fact that lots of active lines running in close proximity can create interference for one another (crosstalk) and, as we know, interference on a copper telephone line can reduce the speed of your Internet service.

The uptake of FTTC is naturally improving all the time and thus consumers have been noticing the impact of this, with some losing anything up to around 20% to 30% of their original line performance to the problem

Thanks for the info Jim. This is all new/news to me.. I'd never heard of "crosstalk" til you mentioned it. I went off and did a search and found a similar thread to the one you linked. Now I'm up to speed on the subject, even if my 'net isn't
