30-50% speed drop between sync speed and wired device tests

Hi, we were upgraded this week on to a new fibre FTTC service. We are getting a clean 56MB plus sync speed on our router (both the Hub One and my old BT Home Hub 6) which is a marked improvement on the 9.44mb sync we used to get on ADSL!

However, using a wired connection without any other devices connected, the max I can seem to get the Ookla speediest to run at is 40.1Mb. I don't understand why there is such a huge drop between my sync speed and my clean test speed.

Could anybody help? The BT wholesale checker is giving me inconsistent results ranging from 15-59mb, yet the sync speed has remained constant.

Thanks!

Stupid question perhaps but you are on the 80/20 rather than 40/10 service?

There have been reports of getting different results with different browsers. Worth trying a different one?

How would I tell? The wholesale speedcheck won’t let me get diagnostics

Sorry to hear you're experiencing speed problems.

I can see we've raised a fault and our suppliers are investigating.

Can you let us know how it goes over the next few days?

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.
