22/9 speed on a 80/20 line

I've moved from a 80/20 profile on a BT line as I was assured that I'd still get this (and it's what I'm paying for). My router (Plusnet Hub One) is 65/14 and I'm happy with this although it was higher with BT. However on doing the wholesale speed test, I'm only getting 22/9. There is nothing wrong with my lovely BT box as we went from 69/17 one day on a BT Hub 5, to 22/9 on the next day with a Plusnet Hub One.

Any thoughts?

Re: 22/9 speed on a 80/20 line

Just some quick suggestions:

- Did you run the speed tests over a wired or wireless connection?

- Try your old BT Home Hub 5 on Plusnet.  To configure it to connect to Plusnet, point a web browser to 192.168.1.254, log in, then go to 'Advanced Settings'.  I think the username & password are stored under the 'Internet' tab. Enter your full plusnet username (eg. myname@plusdsl.net) and password.

Re: 22/9 speed on a 80/20 line

There are no obvious issues when testing your line:

Sync Status In Sync
Downstream Speed 65.1 Mbps
Upstream Speed 14.2 Mbps
Profile Name 0.128M-80M Downstream, Retransmission Low - 0.128M-20M Upstream, Error Protection Off

The wired/wireless question is a very good one and often can be the cause of slower than expected speeds.

Re: 22/9 speed on a 80/20 line

I swapped out the Hub one router for my old BT Hub 5 - couldn't get it to work with my plusnet creds, so went back to my Hub One. Speedtest now 60/12! Not the best we've had but as it's still within the 1st 10 days I'm not complaining.

Never use wifi for any of the computers on my networked house, everything is cat5e wired.

The 'first ten days are a training period' myth again Smiley

Although there is/was some significance to the first ten days it was only ever for diagnostic purposes or setting trigger levels. Both VDSL and the earlier ADSL services have always run at full speed from day one. The only change you're likely to see over time is a gradual reduction as interference and other issues take effect.

The only time you'll see a rise after the initial connection is if there was a fault that gets cleared.

Re: 22/9 speed on a 80/20 line

The first 10 days on ADSL are used to set the FTR (Fault Threshold Rate) and MSR (Max Stable Rate), it's these that then are used if your speeds drop to determine what the line may be capable of.

Re: 22/9 speed on a 80/20 line

Ok, out of the honeymoon period now and getting the same BS speeds as I did when I first joined BT's fibre. Up and down like a whore's drawers. I was getting, when I left BT to come to Plusnet, a usual 80/20 service, even got 9Mb download speeds quite regularly! Now I'm back to 2.5Mb if I'm lucky.

To answer ALL the usual questions - My wiring was all new fitted by BT engineer, all my computers/laptops/phone's are the same, all my cat5e cabling was fitted brand new 12 months ago, according to the Hub One I should be getting 63/14 (which I'm not happy with but would be better than what I'm actually getting) and BTWholesale says I should be getting 64 down.

So who do I complain to and or how do I fix this?
