2.4ghz verses 5gz wireless

have just received a new hub one from pn and noticed that i have two wireless channels can someone explain the difference between the two and also how the router goes about choosing which channel it assigns to your device cheers tonyt

The 2.4Ghz band has a longer range, but is more prone to interference, generally you'll see a lower speed on this than 5Ghz

The 5Ghz band has shorter range, but is less prone to interference and you'll tend to get your full speed on this.

A good idea is connect your compatible devices to both and allow them to roam between as the signal strength changes

much appreciated paul for the quick reply looking at the activity between the two it does appear to be doing just that so i think i will just leave it alone and let each device choose its own frequency

5Ghz doesn't penetrate solids as well as 2.4GHz, so it doesn't go through walls as well
