#116238744 in speed Question #116238744

My sync speed has dropped from 79999 to 73999 with no explanation submitted fault report made on 14/12 still waiting response. Following the fiasco with GINP early this year I would like to know what is going on? (I had ECI modem on huawei cabinet, I fixed it by buying huawei HG512 modem on ebay, Plusnet customer service and OR engineer has no idea about GINP roll out) I have been with Plusnet for 6+ years and I am not amused unfortunately we have no non OR Fibre services here so I am stuck with FTTC. Could someone please find out what is happening, please?

Sounds like crosstalk. If that's as far as it drops you should count yourself lucky. Mine eventually settled at 67Mb/s.

That may explain it, but we shouldn't have to put up with it should we?

Like most things IT related, things don't get sorted - they just move on to whatever's next in the pipeline........... Wink

It is a fundamental effect of the technology so yes you do have to put up with it

Re: #116238744 in speed Question #116238744

Is the speed above that shown by http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome for the FTTC Range B (Impacted) Low? If so you have to put up with it.

Re: #116238744 in speed Question #116238744

Some of us only seem capable of 11Mbps downstream 😞
I'd take 73999 if it were offered to me.

If it is indeed crosstalk then, yes, that's exactly what you have to do.
Crosstalk is an inevitable consequence of multiple wires in close proximity carrying different electrical signals. There are ways to mitigate it but unfortunately they are either impractical or expensive. BT has been trialling something called 'vectoring' which helps but at the moment there is some doubt as to whether it's worth rolling it out for FTTC (where it's just a sticking plaster solution) or go straight to G.FAST where vectoring is built in from the start (amongst other advantages).
Bottom line: We all have to put up with crosstalk in exactly the same way that we all have to put up with our cars not being able to drive one hundred miles on a gallon of petrol.

I don't drive I I couldn't comment  Smiley
These are my latest line stats is there anything on here that indicates crosstalk?
