wifi password - should I change it?

I've just read some articles on wifi passwords. They state that the wifi password should be changed, as the one supplied with the router is possibly insecure. Is this the case with the  Plusnet router & should I change it? Or is it unique?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums @volans . Those 'articles' - as I read them, anyway, - refer to much older routers, very few of which I would think are in use.

AFAIK, Plusnets router passwords are unique, and to be honest, unless there has been a blanket ban on reporting widespread problems, I think you are worrying unnecessarily.

Thanks. I thought it would be o.k, but thought I should check.

@volans

Far more dangerous is not using WAP2 encryption and/or placing hubs in a window so that someone looking in can read the label on the back.

Surely no-one is that stupid? - or maybe they are.

@jab1

I’ve seen hubs living on window cills more than once.

Ive also seen them  on window ledges with alll the info on the back.

 The supplied passwords should be reasonably secure on kit form the likes of plusnet, however if you password is "password", or "admin" or even the router name such as "Netgear"  i would change it

Re: wifi password - should I change it?

Reminds me of my old company:

Loved working there, but my sysadmin friend used to reset all passwords to "Password01".

I even joked with one of the PA's is that your password? I got told to shut up by her, then I realised it was. 😆

I understand a lot of football fans adorn their workspace with team scarves etc. then use the team name as their password with a fantasy score like 5-0 added.  Not all that hard to guess.
