smf database move

Hi
I've moved from my old hosting site to a new one. I had a small smf up and running and always did regular backups using the smf  the> 'forum maintenance' > 'back up data base download'.
I installed a new smf using cPanel on my new hosting site and tried to upload my old mySQL backup file that I had on my hard drive. Unfortunately  it kept coming up with errors.
Any idea where I have been going wrong or even is it possible to move one smf database from a site to another?
Thanks

Yes, it should be possible, assuming both sites are using similar versions of MySQL.

Unfortunately  it kept coming up with errors.

What sort of errors? They may offer a clue as to what's happening.

Re: smf database move

Hi Bob
Thanks for your reply, when I looked closley at the error message it did give me a clue. I'd not changed the dir to the new one called 'archive'. I would never had thought to check that but for your help, so many thanks Bob. Smiley
